I think the biggest advantage of hiring a freelancer over a full-time employee is definitely the fact that it will cost you less. Freelancers tend to accept jobs at a much lower wage compared to somebody that's looking for a full-time job.

Also, it's easier to hire freelancers and then "let them loose" after the project is done. If you hire somebody for full-time it might be tricky firing them if they don't fit the criteria later on.

It is definitely cheaper to hire a freelancer for the work instead of an employee because an employee is given a fixed income and regular work while a freelancer can work on a contract basis only which means you don’t need to pay when there is no work to do. Besides the freelancer charges less maybe because of the competition that as the client you can haggle for a good price for the job.

I think hiring freelancers has its merit but sometimes you want to build a bond-friendly and bond-rich work environment. In order to do that, you might need steady employees instead of a revolving door of freelancers. I would suggest if you're going to bring in freelancers, stick to 2 or 3 specific ones for your specific needs.

I have full-time employees for my brick and mortar business, however, I have never hired full-time employees for my online business. I hire freelancers as needed. I business is small and makes little money. Having a full-time employee will give me a lot of financial obligations. Well, if I have a full time freelancer, my business could grow little big, however, what's the point when I have to pay him full time salary. I might have a fulltime employee some day, but currenctly I am find working with freelancers.

@vinya The only full-time employee an online business needs should be the people or person who keep the site and all its bells and whistles running. That way if it crashes or develops a glitch, it can be fixed immediately... so things can run smoothly again. Time is money after all.

True. However, it is also difficult to run the online business when you are dealing with too many websites. I have two ecommerce sites and four blogs. I am not earning a good revenue because I have been unable to give time. These days I am more focused on working for clients. If I do not work for clients, I will make no money. I have to focus on working for clients because that's how I earn my living. My motive of launching these sites was to earn enough so that I do not have to ghostwrite for clients.

That seems like a bit much. Some people would consider downsizing and pulling the plug on the less successful sites of the group, or if possible... merge a few of the sites together.

I think freelancers can be a good fit for the tasks which are small and take time. And I think instead of paying people full time this can be adding up more into the work force. And that in itself can be really good. I would say that working all the time and getting paid more for less work. I guess freelancers are lot better in that sense.

I agree. Not all tasks done in companies need highly-trained professionals. Sometimes individuals with enough skills can execute the necessary jobs for the company. This is probably why they've started to hire freelancers more often.

Yes and automation is going to reduce the cost of many professionals. And on that point you can see that it'd be not much reasonable to make use of the full time employee. I personally find the freelancers better. But some of the time you have to hire someone who is into small tasks and charges good.

I see why they're appealing to most companies. They really are flexible and cost less while still getting the job done. And it's also probably because they won't have to worry about providing additional benefits. Like bonus salary and health care.

I think the biggest benefit is that you can pick and choose different freelancers for the various jobs that you need to be done. For example, your employees may have a fixed set of skills. If you need something done but none of your employees can do it, you need to spend extra time and money finding someone that can do it. But if you hire freelancers, all you need to do is to just hire a freelancer that can do that particular job.

From my experience and observations with freelancers, they are always good at their job because it's what puts cash into their pockets and giving excellent service is what they live for which puts them in a position to being referred to other jobs that needs their expertise. But when you do a horribl job as a freelancer, that certainly marks the end of you being given any job again by that same person.

I guess full time employees will demand benefits and a certain compensation that will interest them to work with you. If you hire freelancers, not only you don't need to give them some benefits but also you can set your own price/payment for a certain job and you can easily find a freelancer that will fit into the description of the work that you're hiring. Freelancers are more flexible and very resourceful since they manage to find a decent job online that is really hard to find. You can also call them anytime you needed their service and that will never be a problem to them.

The evolution of freelancing has made the world a better place that we can now get the works done for us at a cheaper rate than what full-time employees can charge at the end of the week/month. I think a lot of companies really do try to dodge hiring regular employees as much as possible because they are more expensive and have a higher maintenance to keep up with considering all the regulations they have to put up with from the government. This is why I do think that this might be a better option indeed. I guess many people look down upon this business tactic, but I personally think it's just the natural path of the market and I don't even own a business so I'm on the other side and I still agree with businesses. Maybe I'm just missing something.

I agree that freelancers are cheaper in cost compared to an employee. I know that part because I am a freelancer. And although I am diligent when it comes to commissioned work, I cannot say that all freelancers are diligent and with quality on their mind. When you hire an employee, you can get more quality because the hired employee has confidence that he has a sort of security of tenure. You can terminate the services of a freelancer anytime but for an employee, you need to give him notice of at least a week.

No one is a master of all knowledge, this is why it's very important to outsource the jobs you don't have any clue on how to take care of to freelancers who would do an exceptional job for. Having a full time employee on a job is good but it's more costly to maintain a full-time employee unlike making use of a freelancer who you only pay once the job given him or her is completed.

Hiring freelancers is a great way of getting work done without worrying too much about expenses because you are guaranteed to find someone with the necessary skillset you're looking for with a fair amount of experience for less than actually hiring employees. I completely agree with this. freelance working is the the work of the future. The era of hiring an office full of staff and paying them a salary is over. Its more convenient to hire freelance workers who in most cases have the experience. you can also call them when you need them. You don't have to train them like normal office staff,because they have specialized they probably have years and years of experience.
