Google has been fined 2 billion euros

I guess this fine the Google received is the biggest from all times,, the fine is 2,42 billion Euros for abusing its dominant position about Internet searching for "Google Shopping". Google expressed its disagreement with the fine and said that they will make an appeal.

Ok, so after reading the article about it, if I got it right. Google has made a thing that helps people find cheaper products. If those products come from any other country that isn't EU, EU does not like it and it decides to act on it. If this is really the case, I feel sorry for being the part of EU. As a potential buyer, I would buy anything that's cheaper, as most other people would do. If I got this whole thing right.

If I got it right, I see no reason for EU to fine google for this.

Oh, nvm, another quick search got me to wiki which states the following:

In June 2017 Google Shopping was fined a record €2.4 billion by the EU Commission for giving its own online shopping services top priority in search results.

Seriously? You will fine a company that promotes itself rather than others? Cmon, be serious. It is their right to do so. If people really cared about other sites they would use them. Big deal lol

If you are the owner of Google, will you not give Google Shopping the priority by your search engine? That is foolish of the EU to levy such a huge fine on Google for doing that. They don’t have business sense at all and what I perceive is that they are twisting the arm of a giant. What if Google comes back at them and block their places that they couldn’t use the Google Search anymore? That would be disastrous for the internet users in their country.

Holy... that's one big fine. I mean, I guess it's probably pocket money for a company like Google but still, WOW!

I do understand why they were given a fine though. It clearly breaks the EU antitrust law and Google knew what they were doing, 100%. Yes, it is logical that you will want to promote your own services since it is your search engine but such laws exist to ensure that it protects the innovations and competition. Google abused the fact that they're basically controlling the largest and most used search engine to promote themselves even further. Imagine being a seller trying to get your products high up... I bet you wouldn't like what they've done. If you break the law, expect to deal with the consequences.

You are funny, pocket money....maybe you are right. But I don't think that Google likes this even if they have so much money. Hope they will fix this or it will be good for payment!
Thank you for your answer!

Google expressed its disagreement with the fine and said that they will make an appeal. Now i hope their appeal will have apositive answer. i don't think is right what Google did as you said Tronia " giving its own online shopping services top priority in search results" but the fine is too high in my opinion.
Thank you all for your answers to my post!

That amount is staggering! How much of it will come from Google's coffers and how much does insurance cover? Also what is the money used for once it is received by the EU?

Wow, that's quite a crazy amount! I would imagine that google will be hiring some of the most expensive lawyers in the world for this case. Those lawyers will sure end up getting a hefty sum of cash for this case.

They already did that Okav, and I am sure they will have positive results. I do hope this for Google because I hate the governments (They are always trying to obtain money from those who work and have a lot of money).
Thank you for your reply.

Oh my, those are real numbers lol. i don't get it, whats with the google shopping ? Those are really huge numbers, but i guess google can pay it easily. speaking of dominant, google has been dominant in a lot of ways.

Maybe is true and they can pay easily such a huge sum because Google earnings are very high for many years ago. We can only imagine how big their earnings are, so I doubt they are worried about this. Still, they are trying in a trial not to pay it. Will see what will happen.
Thank you for your answer!

I know that many people consider Google services to be the best. Google definitely has a dominant position. But I find it quite unfair that google has been fined. The amount of fine that Google has to pay is quite high too. I hope that they win the case.

Google will be granted appeal and the fund reduced I guess.
Google is mega rich but they still strive for more money.
From history, google has never wasted funds,if it won't be beneficial to them.If that was an investment, they would had paid off long ago. Still waiting fingers crossed for the next action.

Oh, oh, I am not for Google but this fine of 2 billion Euros looks unfair for Google. To say that Google is biased in the search results that it is giving priority to its own business lines, I don’t think that is a good issue to argue with. Google has the right to show what it wants to show in its search list. And if their search list is biased and not pure just like before then let the public decide. For sure, people will stop using Google if they find out that the search list contains Google businesses in the priority.

This is what happens when any corporation or institution gets too big. The EU is a bureaucratic bully. Look how it is throwing its fines around. Its true that because Google owns its search engine it should be able to do what it wants on it. It should promote its own products because it is in business, and any business is in business to make a profit. The EU can be super ridiculous and uses its might to make left leaning policies that are beneficial to their people and unfair to others. It makes it really hard to trade with the EU.
