New Year Freelancing Goals

Hard to believe the New Year is just around the corner! I often find myself reflecting on the past year and things I'd like to do better in 2019.

Do you set goals/make New Year's resolutions when it comes to your work? Any big resolutions or goals you're setting for 2019?

Hi there!

Well as a beginner Freelancer I left my resume on several websites, I've dedicated a lot of time to present myself the best way it's possible. I was hoping to get many people hiring and noticing my skills. Lately, I was offered $20 to translate a HUGE text from Hebrew to Russian. It was difficult as I sat 3 days on it, trying to make it perfect.

Hopefully, next year freelancing career will be good for me. I always wanted to be a hands-on mother to my kids while earning money to help my husband in supporting our daily family needs. Freelancing career or work at home mom is best for me.

That’s the same situation I’m in. I have young children so part of my goal is to work on my time management more to try and have a better schedule for being a parent and also getting my freelancing done.

That's good to know. We have the same hat maybe next year our career as a freelance will flourish. Freelancing really helps to those who are stay at home mother since they don't need to work in the office.

I don't make new year resolutions but tend to set goals for the day. It might be a small thing, but my plan is to increase my income by a little bit more each day. If I can beat the last day's total then over the year this should be a reasonable goal to achieve.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
Daily goals are great too! I like that idea of trying to better yourself each day. I’m someone who enjoys a challenge so I think that would work for me as a motivator too.

I think I will avoid making new year resolutions because I always find myself in a position that is not even worth mentioning here. Setting daily goals for a freelance seems rewarding because you always focus on attainable goals.

Same with me I don't make New Year's resolution. It's such a pity that we can only think of changing and improving ourselves when we welcome New Year. But, it's still good, at least, people have that spirit of resolution.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
@theresajane yes, I often wonder that myself. Change can happen at any time, and should happen whenever an individual notices they need to amend things in their life. In saying that I think people find something comforting about the fresh start and clean slate that seems to be signified by a new year.

Often I make daily goals and no year resolution. A year is too big and unless you divide it into small achievable goals, it will be hard to make head over tail of your resolutions

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

It’s actually not a New Year’s resolution anymore that is important for adults like us. I call it a plan of action or a paradigm shift that we have to take like what you said about more earnings. Affiliate marketing is my target early next year that it can be my New Year’s plan of action for the betterment of my online income which is getting smaller and smaller lately that I really need to innovate.

I don't make New Year's Resolution because I know that I won't be able to do it. However, I just have a dream or goal just like what another member said. It is a goal that I already set before, something that is different from New years resolution.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

amelia88
I’ve often heard people say that when they set New Years resolutions it can be hard to stick to them. But I think work goals are a bit different! Most people seem to set New Years resolutions like losing a ton of weight and things like that, which can be super unrealistic if there are no plans on how to get there. Work plans are easier to map out in my opinion!

when i was in high school up to college I always make goals and bucket list for the next year but eventually I never comply any of it. So for this new years I rather not make or set goals for the next year. I will just go with the flow wherever fate leads me.

Lol, let me laugh because I have the same problem. I had set some goals at the start of this year, and last week I was reflecting on them, only to realize I have not achieved any of the goals. I will not set new year goals. Instead, I will be setting them on a weekly or monthly basis.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I agree. I have made a bucket list of my goals for the year 2018 but sad to say, I haven't completed it. Creating a new one mighg bring me disappoinment but I would like to keep a list of goals so that I could remember why do I even started this.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Same with me. It would be better to go with the flow and set my everyday goals rather than setting my bucket list and being disappointed because I can't achieve it.

And count me in! I tend to make some goals, and I think that I will do this and that, and I end up doing anything but what I planned or expected. So, I think I'm done with planning and I will be more into working on it. I'm currently looking for a better job as freelancer, something like translation or health or medical field, and it would be awesome to work for a reliable company, so if Santa Claus would like to help me out with this, it will be really appreciated.

I usually make a bucket list of goals that I want to achieve every beggining of the year. Now, what I want to make a change in my work is to be able to get more services sold and earn more money. I want to save money before the summer comes and earning will always come from hardwork. That's why I would like to prove something to somebody that I can work eventhough I am studying.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Many new year resolutions are not achievable. As the year advances, the goals are dropped one by one till you forget them completely. Do we have people who achieve the goals? I do not think so.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

ajahcuizon
Actually I do have some goals that I already achieved since I had written those. I wrote that list as my year 2018's goals and so far, out of 12 goals I have done 9 of them. I'm glad with my achievement, hoping that I could finish them all before 2018 ends.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

When I was still a student, I always thought of New Year's resolution, but ended up forgetting them. I think it's better to just aim to improve everyday and set goals everyday. I believe one has to make yearly goals. The goals may be resolutions. You then sit down to make daily goals aimed at the yearly ones. You then plan to achieve the goals daily. When you finish 365 days you will have attained your achievements.

When I was a kid, I always make New Year's Resolution not because I believe in them but because I believe my teachers would ask for it when the schooldays resume. But now, I prefer to set short term and long term goals and step by step I will reach my goals.

Come 2019. I am aiming to be at least better and have more skills compared to my last-year self. I'd also like to get a part-time job on the side while having a full-time one. Is it possible? Would my full-time employer get upset or disappointed if ever I decided to work for another company?

I think a lot of people take on part time jobs when they already have a full time job. It would be great for the additional income! I think most employers would be okay with it provided it’s not a business that would conflict with theirs, and as long as any contract you signed didn’t prohibit working anywhere else.

Honestly, I don't make any new year resolutions or set any goals and targets for the next year. I think that it is better to concentrate on your work and try and give your best in everything that you do. Things never happen the way you decide and when you set a goal then you can get obsessed with achieving it. If you are able to achieve it then it definitely will boost your confidence but if you are not able to achieve it then you may get disappointed and lose the focus in your work. So, I always try to set a realistic target for my next day and try my best to achieve it.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I totally agree with what you said. As we grow older, we never care about new year's resolution but instead we think to get better on our job. Setting goals will only disappoint us in the end of the day and sometimes it will just frustrate as to why it was never followed.

Thanks. We've been building the new site for quite sometime. Going over things, redoing things, then changing those things that were already redone. I don't make new year resolution because I am sure I will break it somehow

Most people never keep their new years resolutions. That is a fact. The reason is the year appears so long that you can promise yourself that you'll get something done before the 365 days are up. It is the small victories you embrace every day that lead you towards achieving the greater goals. Maybe it would be better to make a resolution and then split it up so that even if you hit a few milestones it won't feel like you failed altogether.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

esteban123
I am not the type of person that are making some new years resolution for my freelancing activities because I prefer to have my set of goals everyday. It helps me to have a sort of discipline and focus on my freelancing jobs everyday since I have a target amount of earning that I want to reach that is why I am among a lot of efforts and hard work just to reach it.

My goal for the New Year is to create a workday that lasts longer than 24 hours. LOL. NOT! This year though I have been feeling as if there were not enough hours in the day to accomplish all the freelance work I wanted to accomplish. So my New Year's goal is to wake up earlier and stay up later in order to get more accomplished. Hey! It's the only way I could figure out how to add extra hours to my workday. LOL.

I actually have plans of setting up my own website early next year. It will be an e-commerce site that is intended for affiliate marketing. It will also have a blog as a sub domain so that it is like having 2 sites in one domain. But I am not confident that I could do it because of my hectic schedule. I don't often set any specific writing goals for the new year.

That however doesn't mean that I don't set any goals, I do. But I only set new goals when the time allocated for the previous goals expires. Occasionally I'll be lucky enough to attain the goal. That for me is the time when I set goals or refine the old ones and try to complete what I had began.

I don't set a goal for the new year but I set goals every day. It is just small goals but it helps me a lot. I have a goal to read books about writing and grammar every day. I also set writing an article each day even though it is not for work and just to train myself. I set goals to improve my vocabulary, I would have to learn ten new words per day. Small goals but yields big results.

I already have made mine. I intend to make a full time income from freelancing. With the world economies going through a bit of turbulence(they have never recovered from the 2007-2008 economic meltdown) I don’t think that it is prudent to only rely on your off- line income. I want to make freelancing one of my major income streams. In the first half of 2019 my goal is to earn least 2000$ per month in online income, fingers crossed.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

I do think that the global financial crisis made me think more about having multiple income streams, for sure. It also made me want to pay off debts quicker - I'm trying to pay off my mortgage quickly because I don't want to owe the banks anything. Having multiple income streams both online and offline is incredibly helpful for that.

It's great that you wish to learn about freelancing first before you get started. It will save you a lot of time because at least you won't make many mistakes and you'll not lose hope since you'll know what to expect. Just ask questions on the boards about anything you'd like to know and you'll get valuable answers that you can use.

That said, in the mean time you could look around the boards and try to learn internet marketing. Get it right and it will make you money than freelancing.
