How good are edu backlinks?

In the grand scheme of things, how good are .EDU links? Are they a must have in order for me to succeed or do I not need them at all? Do you build .EDU backlinks always for your websites?

.Edu backlink means you have got link from authority site.According to me, .Edu as well as .Gov backlinks would give you quick SERP.

they matters a lot !
since Edu and Gov are under Educational and Government sector links so google does marked linked on these as spam that provide high Authority to your backlink and you can see some Quick Result in SERP's

Depends on what Edu backlinks and no you don't need them, but they are really helpful if they are on the right sites.

.edu are domain for education sites., so maybe it has a lot of quality content maybe that was its advantage., so I think it is one of the main reason why its give a weight backlinks.

my opinion edu backlink form commenting with thousand OBL will not impact. better .com with low OBL
if you want build edu backlinks, i suggest try edu forum or contextual

I am also interested not in getting backlinks from edu and gov sites which they say are sites of authority that would give you a quality backlink but my interest is why the classification? Does that mean that the search engines have the gov and edu sites for their priority in checking backlinks? What if I would post a comment on a blog that is getting a million views in a day, wouldn’t that be a quality backlink?
