OK so I have taken the advice of a lot of members here and started being active on Quora as often as I can and it would seem that yes it is an amazing place to increase your reach.
I have a few followers and I have answered a few questions... and I have had a few hits on my websites from Quora.
I am starting to see just how powerful it can be.
Ok so how about some more tips on using Quora please!
I see there is a blog section, can I just add a blog, call it The Musings of Lynne and just go wild with sharing things there and strategically adding links to my websites in there?
Man, I need to get on Quora more as well. I'm going to have to make a bigger mental note to spend at least 10 minutes on there every day trying to answer peoples questions and stuff. Because the more you do, the more rep your account gets and the more that can help you later on down the line as well. Especially if you're answering big questions and provide links to resources and things as those questions can rank high in Google, pick up a lot of traction and go on to send you a lot of traffic for years to come.
I was not aware of their blog section though. I just had a quick look now and could not find it. Do you have a link to that?
I will have to do some digging around, a bit of research and try to brush up on my Quora skills and tips!
Are you sure you want to delete this post?
Mike just click on your name and then you will see in the drop down menu there is an option "Blogs"... and if you click on that you can create a blog on Quora.
I have not gone any further than find that when I was having a look around today and then wondering about it, so I posted here asking about it.
Ok so I take it you have no experience with that yet LOL. It looks like it might be a way awesome way to get some traffic right?
Oh yeah doh! That's cool. You can also create any blog domain you want so http://yourblogname.quora.com I wonder how well that would be good for keyword targeting. Provided the word you wanted to use was available and how long a word they let you have. Quora is ranked high by Google so you could probably use the blog section to rank some keyword and long tail keywords quite easily. You'd have to add the content as well of course but yeah. It could be a good way to get some traffic from that blog. You could also answer questions and link to your blog from the answers as well that would boost them internally too. I have some XP with Quora but not a huge amount and haven't done any blogging on it before. Will have to look into that some more and take advantage of it at some point.
Wow, it's been forever since I have been on Quora. I remember when the website was still in it's "prelaunch" mode, and the template didn't even look like it does now.. yes, that long ago. It seems Quora has added a couple of features since I have been on there as well, such as the Blog feature. I remember when it was solely for Question, and Answers. I wonder what made them think to add a blogging section to their product. It's very interesting regardless.
There is a power of Quora. I have witnessed it. For instance, as soon as you publish a question there is like 40 views instantaneously, sometimes even hundreds of views. If you have a website link then you may even get a couple of hundred website views. I remember when I asked the design community about the design of a MMORPG game that I was programming, and it converted into like 10 players, and like $10 in sales. This was years ago, so you could imagine that the power of Quora has definitely increased since then.
I love Quora, however I have seen the negative aspect of Quora and I simply don't like it. For instance, if you answer a question and your answer is correct, another person will basically answer the same question, add pictures, and a little story and they'll get all the upvotes. I never understood this about Quora. It just rubbed me the wrong way, and it feels like your answers don't matter so why even try? Hopefully it's changed since then, and it's a little better. I never found answers like that to be relevant.
Thanks for your input Everett. That is interesting, I haven't been that involved so as to witness something like that yet on Quora.
I have so far only had one negative experience where I answered a question about alcoholism and someone that obviously took offense at what I said downvoted my answer.. probably an alcoholic that can't stop drinking LOL.
I haven't spent any time checking what other people are doing on Quora since I have so little spare time. I have only had enough time to add some answers and run.
I have actually had some people contacting me via email and signing up for my newsletter from Quora. How cool is that? I have seen already in such a small space of time how awesome it can be so I am wondering whether spending the time to write blogs there will pay off nicely for me.
Here some advice from a long time Quora poster:
1. You won't be getting any backlinks juice because all the links you are going to post there are nofollow. Now depends on a lot of what SEO you ask, but I think nofollow links are still important as a whole from a social network perspective to Google.
2. The one thing you can get a lot of from Quora is traffic. If you post enough answers with your link attached sooner or later
you are going to strike gold and hit a lot of traffic. Quora ranks very well in Google for a lot of highly searched terms so basically people will find come from organic search, find a quora question, look at the answer and Boom, there you have it! Good old targeted traffic from Quora!
3. Always be helpful with your answers! Don't write crappy answers just so you can paste your link, try answering with an honest answer and maybe suggest to the user she/he can find more info on the link you mentioned.
Thanks Cristian. Yeah I have been enjoying Quora and I have had a little dribble of traffic. I try and post at lease one quality answer a day
I tried writing a post but it has gotten no joy yet! Perhaps I should write another one?
I'm not sure that the blog on Quora will work wonders for me, I want to blog on LinkedIn though. I have just written one post on LinkedIn, that was over a year ago and I get traffic still from that one post!
Just one post? You'll have to write more than that to notice any decent traffic! It's all about the right answering the right questions. Some quora questions get a lot of organic traffic, those are the ones you want to answer and you want to be placed as higher as possible, meaning you will need a lot of thumbs ups!
LOL yes true, just one won't do it. Thanks for the reminder Cristian. I will try and do another blog post there soon.
It is just hard to try and always find the time to post things elsewhere when I am so busy with my own blogs and other projects too!
Posting on Quora was one of my main source of income. It pays better than forum posting but you have to do a better a proper research.
You have only benefits if you play your cards well with Quora. It's an educated traffic, it's real and most of the times they are engaging in conversations.
You can post your answers in a lot of categories but you have to be very careful and smart enough to blend them on the proper topic as they've increased amount of moderators and if they suspect something fishy they will erase it.
I have followed blog of James Altucher on Quora. And he seems to be posting the content on regular basis. He made money off book using that. And he is constantly promoting his content, videos and stuff online. He seems to be making a lot of money in due process. You can see that some of the best options with the content are possible with the quora. But you have to watch out with what type of links you post. They don't allow different type of content. So pay attention to that.
