How do you get content ideas?

First, let me explain how I get content ideas. Apart from original ideas that all of sudden are popping into my head and I have to write them down immediately, for future development, I usually need a little help choosing the right topic and subject to write about.

I will admit I'm not the best writer out there, especially on a topic like fashion for example. But I occasionally need to create content in such niches and I have a whole process from which I get my ideas.

1. Feedly. Yes, ever since Google reader was closed I had to switch to an alternative so I choose Feedly. I have a dozen of categories with thousandths of added websites. I choose the right category related to my niche and I filter everything on a more specific topic, let's go with "shoes". Now I'll end up with a lot of articles on shoes, this will get a better idea about the structure and overall style of writing I need to implement.

2. After that, a good tool I'm using for getting specific ideas is: answerthepublic.com

3. After I narrowed down the actual subject I'm interested in writing about I head to Quora.com to research the topic a little more. Questions and Answer websites are great because they can give you direct user experience opinions, very useful when trying to create a comprehensive article.

Of course, I also run everything throw my SEO process for figuring out the best keywords to use but I wanted to focus on the actual process of getting content ideas.

Oh my gosh you are opening my eyes here big time. I am a blogger so I usually just write about things that are going on for me and things that I have learned about recently.

I haven't exactly got a process for coming up with content ideas. Usually I have a lot more ideas for my blogs than I have time to write them so when I think of something I write it down in a notebook to get to. My book is full and I also have ideas for new websites, once again that I just cant get to!

However that said these tips will be a great way to brainstorm and see what people are looking for.

Exactly, I'm not saying that your ideas are not searched but for some subjects that may be the case and you don't really want to focus energy and time on subjects that people don't read and don't search for, therefore you'll not get any organic traffic.

Thanks Cristian, well I do keyword research on all my content. If I come up with an idea I always do keyword research on it before I start writing anything, this is my starting point for any content. However doing brainstorming according to what people are searching for is another completely different method that I have never tried before.

So yes I am quite keen to try out these tools and methods!

Luckily I have my recording app running smoothly on phone and i save my subjects when they come. I have lost quite a lot of article ideas because I had nothing to write or record available and some time I have a fish memory, it lasts for two seconds and then an immense blank takes over.

Usually I am doing some research before i even consider drafting my articles. Sometimes i get some really particular niches that i have no clue about them and have to spend 1-2-3 hours just to get familiarized with the subject. Feedly is my favorite tool also when it comes to research but I'm using Google (mainly after page 10) to get some not so popular particulars.

I didn’t know that writers have a tool for getting content ideas. That is cool. Imagine, getting ideas from a list of topics. I did not know that. I guess you can get unlimited ideas for what to write if you have that tool. I will take note of that so when I get a commissioned work then I wouldn’t be groping for topics to write. At least I would have a guide on the possible topics.

When I'm looking for a topic I simply watch some new movies and anime and from there I would get a good topic to write. For example I watched Infinity War and I wrote an article about the various end of days scenarios. The last film I watched was MEG, it's about Megalodons still living in the deepest oceans. After seeing the film I wrote an article about Shark Myths and Facts. Basically I don't really think of what to write, instead I just feel what I want to write and write it.
