Computer hanging or going to slow frequently? How to fix it?

Hi all I am using Core i 5 third generation Laptop over some years and for freelancing job, I thought it should be enough for such kind of job. My laptop is HP Core i 5 6GB ram and 500GB HD and I know it is not bad configuration. But, recently I am getting trouble for doing job for long on my laptop. Frequently, it is hanging or going to slow. And If I reset up windows, next few days it will run very well.

But, after few days, it will become slow again and hanging again and again. Usually I clean all potential threat like run- temp , run-%temp%, run-recent, run- prefetch etc and using disk clean up too. But, ultimate result is Zero.

What should you recommend? How I get back speed up with short task?

Try to clean up any unnecessary stuff, including files and programs which you might not need anymore. You could also try to check out products that could help you speed it up a bit. It could be that there is some malware that affected its efficiency. Do you use AVG or something similar that could point out such a problem? If it is getting too slow you might want to have it checked up and formatted. AVG PC tuneup might just do the trick. It would disable unwanted background running tasks to free up memory and it removes unwanted duplicate files and cleans up temp files among other features. You can download it for free.

Hi,
  • My recommend is that uninstall all unnecessary program from your system.
  • Make sure you are using 64 bit operating system with up to date.Recommend for system which has more than 4 GB of RAM.
  • Don't use any cleaner software, they mess up your system.
  • Check in task manager if some processor is utilizing more resources. If not needed end that processor.
  • Disable all unnecessary program which are starting during Boot.(open Run and type "msconfig" and open "startup" tab)
  • Regularly clean your C.P.U and remove all dust from your C.P.U. (case fan and processor fan).
  • Make sure that in BIOS setting, you are not over clocking your processor.Make them to default.

Personally I mostly use desktop PC which as "core 2 duo processor" and "2 GB RAM" with "windows 10 o/s". I use in-built antivirus "windows defender" and rest I don't use any other antivirus or system cleaner software.Because of this My system is running smoothly.I usually don't face any hanging issue.

Most of the antivirus software utilize more resources to run which make your system to run slowly. It is recommended that you stay away from malicious website and illegal download.

Regularly Monitor what is running inside your PC whether visible or hidden.

Hi ssam thanks for your nice suggestion. Most of the things I know except few. I should try with all of them. Hope it will work. I have got new information like cleaner software mess up your system? I did not know. I use ccleaner for clean my computer and I saw it is work fine here. yes! I should be couscous about this. And yes I clean my computer dust one year back, and I think now time to clean it again. Dust as like an enemy of computer. Though I used laptop, there less chance to bring dust rather than desktop. And good to know, I do not use other antivirus rather windows security essential which also need to install as free from Microsoft. And I do not think that is liable for slow computer.

Please read this entire article

Small part from the link-
Why Running CCleaner Every Day Could Slow Down Your Web Browsing

You could use CCleaner constantly, running it every day with the default settings. However, this would actually slow your computer down in real use. This is because CCleaner is set up to delete your browser’s cache files by default.

Re-install windows and have a clean installation.
Install every software you need but check you msconfig and clean every application that starts with Windows.

But the real recommendation is up your RAM memory if you still have empty slots. And also, for the love of God, just switch from HDD to SSD and combined with the recommendations above you will have a brand new laptop.

Hi Cristian thanks for your suggestion. I said it before, after install windows, next few days computer performance very well as like new one. But after few days again going to slow and hanging. So, I think re-install not solution. And good to know I am not using any unnecessary software too. Only few importance software I used like Photoshop, MS office, team viewers, Skype etc. My laptop RAM 6 GB DDR 3 and HD 500 GB. It is looking well and I think I need to go HDD to SSD. I heard SSD mare better and faster than HDD.

Again thanks for great suggestion.

Yes, I hated that Windows thing in the past. Very fast first few weeks after new installation but started to get slow with time.
This won't happen with the SSD, everything will be instantaneously! I have it for a couple of months now and my laptop boots and its ready for work in about 10 seconds. No more waiting when you finally login, I click Chrome the very next second as well as Photoshop and everything loads in instantly.

How long have you had your laptop for? There may be many reasons for the slowness of your laptop. It could be that your laptop is getting old and the CPU, RAM and specs are wearing out. It could also be that your specs are not good enough for the latest software updates. It could be due to hardware failure too so I recommend you check your hardware and make sure that this isn’t the source of your problem. Which antivirus are you using? It could also be due to a virus; I recommend that you buy a top end antivirus such as Bitdefender and Kaspersky and do a scan to see if it detects anything.

I have 2 HP laptops and from my experience, there are many factors that cause the slowdown. What is the operating system that you are using and what is your anti-virus. With Windows 7, there is an automatic updating of the system which is not transparent so you don’t know that it is dragging down the speed. The anti-virus also has the same issue that it takes over the memory for updating its program or virus list. Check on those 2 aspects before you go somewhere else.
