HI, site speed is really important and should be done for the user’s experience. In general, slow loading pages suffer from low user engagement. It also increased bounce rates. Slow loading pages can also have a direct negative impact on indexation.

It matters a lot. If your site is slow no one will want to visit it and they will leave right away when they find out how slow it is.

Improving site speed is often referred as a technical SEO. Technical SEO because it is not related to on page or off page, but with the technical issues such as bandwith, diskspace and hosting. If you have low bandwith, but get high traffic, your site will load slow. If you have low diskspace and most of the space has been occupied with content, your website will also load slow. Having too many big sized images might also affect your website. First, check what is the reason of slow speed and correct accordingly.

This may sound unrelated but I guess speed has something to do with the bounce rate. I am talking about my experience that whenever I would click to open a link and the web page takes a long time to display the contents, I would hastily leave. I guess internet users have a short attention span and slow pages get high bounce rate. If your site has a lot of pages with high bounce rate I think it affects the influence of search engines.
