    Over the years, forums have been spammed so heavily by link builders that getting a link from a forum has become synonymous with link spam. Though, many times, these links can actually be useful, if not for SEO then for direct traffic. What are some of the best practices for posting on a forum for a backlink? Such as what is the etiquette you should use when posting to a forum, so that your backlink is not perceived as spam by Google or the forum staff?

    Go into the forum with the right motive. Don't just think to yourself, I want a backlink and post for that reason. Only contribute answers to discussions where you can do good. If you can't add something new to a discussion that hasn't been said, then simply bypass and move on to another discussion where you can contribute more. These are my best tips for being an ethical forum link builder.

    There are some forum admins who are averse with spamming or even with just the first post of your link. In fairness to them, they include that prohibition in their rules. In those kinds of forums, it is best to stay away. For hospitable forums, just be aware of the promotion posts that it should not abuse the hospitality of the forum. It is best to make interesting posts about other subjects so you can be a good contributor to the forum and therefore you will be welcome with your subtle link building.
