We all know that content is king and blogs are dependent on the contents. But it is not just the contents that matter when it comes to popularity. Not even a relentless marketing campaign can make your blog popular. I guess it is the thing called x factor which means it is the factor that defies logic and couldn’t be explained. You just get popular without even a reason and you cannot be popular no matter what you do.

Of course it should be of good sentence construction and grammar, right?

Do search engine bots know what is good sentence construction or correct grammar? Not sure, as some spun article blogs seem to rank very well. So maybe it's more about the keywords you use. I'm guessing that real humans are not actually checking these pages to determine what is good content and what is not. Though there are definite algorithms set into place to decide all this.

Yeah. Google mostly only see keywords on the articles and not the proper sentence construction and grammar. But how about your readers? Of course, they need to read a well written article instead of mumble-jumbled words...

Content not found anywhere else. Content that makes you go "wow".

It might turn out to be true a few days or hours after you posted your content. But we can't help that there are people who copies our content and post it on their sites...

It helps a blog become popular if the owner shows his images and join some organization or promote a certain cause like "stop child abuse" or something. Some of the local website actually ask for donation to help homeless children because they are connected to church orgs.

But then of course their site do have good interesting contents, its still the prime factor.

Of course, your readers will be able to discern what a good post is. And, that's why it's very important to only post quality. But really, i have been on some spun article sites that used very poor grammer and sentence construction and those sites ranked high enough for popular keywords. Google needs to do a much better job of weeding these trash (spun) sites out so that real writers/bloggers have a chance at getting ranked where they should be.

Yes you can do that. But doing that alone can't make your blog popular. There are people out there who do all of these, who knows when, but they are not getting popular. What do you think is the reason?

I'd say that there would be many things that makes a blog popular. First of all, if the niche is not competitive at the time when the blog started, it has a good deal of potential to be popular. Second, good content. You always need good content to get your blog popular. Short articles or long articles, who cares? What people care about is quality, and not length. You can have a very short article on your blog, that many people like, or also have a very long article which no one cares about. Third, it's a thing that many bloggers seem to miss: formatting. People do not want to see articles which are unappealing such as:
"Bblablablablablablabla, title lorem ipsum dolor amet
Content content content"
They would rather want to see something like:
Bblablablablablablabla, title lorem ipsum dolor amet
Content content content

It's something that many people forget about. Last but definitely not least, uniqueness. Your blog needs something unique to make it popular. Why do you think so many blogs get popular? Because of their uniqueness of course! All these advices should help you to get started if you will ever start making a blog, so good luck!

Or, pose an open question (in your niche) to your own readers and have them offer opinions via the comment box. That could also work on Google + or Facebook for stimulating fan feedback and interaction.

Yes, I've used this technique and also seen it on other blogs and Facebook pages. It helps engage readers and fans and the more you can get them suggesting ideas/questions and interacting with your blog or page, the more times they will come back.

Everyone has already said this and I am telling this again: Content is the key and only valuable contents can make your blog popular. Try to post contents that people want to read, do not post because you know this better. If you post contents that people will like to read, you will have a lot of visitors to your site. The topics of your contents should be useful, informative, original, as well as well written. Try to grab readers attention with first few lines.

To be frank, it’s easy to say how a blog becomes popular but it’s easier said than done for when you have a blog, that’s the time you can realize how difficult it is to make a blog popular. Of course, there are the criteria of having good articles or even controversial articles. But one thing is sure with a blog, get a celebrity for a guest blogger and surely your blog will get more readers as a result. The followers of that celebrity will definitely check that celebrity’s guest blog on your site.

A blog is popular because it gives out useful information for free and the more useful the information being given the more popular the blog becomes. But sadly most blogs don't give out good information that's why only a small fraction of blogs are popular.
