Weekend moderators

Would you employ a moderator just for weekends; someone who would not come by any other time. This would be to give regular moderators or staff a chance to be off of forum to spend time on personal life or with family and not have forum duties.

If you have a very active forum, you might try to assign shifts to your staff, so they don't burn out and don't really have to be there every day. If you only have one or two moderators, they will quickly be over whelmed.

I have two shifts for my moderators, with morning and evening. And, some moderators only work certain days, such as Monday and Thursday or just Saturdays as this is what their schedule allows. You can't mandate that a moderator be on your forum constantly as real life will always take priority. And, that's how it should be.

Depends on my site activity, if we have regular moderators but don't moderate much on weekends then I would but for an extrememly active site, I wouldn't do this. There was a site I used to go on frequently and one of the Administrators would only come by on Wednesdays to post a bit and do his weekly job and then be gone and would rarely visit any other time.

Some people have jobs during the day and can only admin in evening hours. Though one of my admins checked in on the forum with her Blackberry as she was a nanny. So that worked out.

Having both week day and weekend staff could be a smart idea as some staff will want a part time staff job, while others will want something more full time and involving during the week. And, you won't be hurting yourself by having both types.

Are you paying your moderators? If so, then they should be on site every day of the week they get paid. Otherwise, allow them to take the weekend off and employ someone else who wants money during those days.

Having weekend moderators is a good idea so the regular mods can take the weekend off. Although I know that the staff is still doing their job even when on vacation since they can use their phone for the purpose, it’s still better to have a day off to get the mind out of the forum for some time. However, isn’t it harder to find people who are willing to work on weekends? I admit that I also work on weekends but to be a part timer for weekends, that’s as if throwing away my rest day.
