As a freelancer, do you work in the weekend too?

As a freelancer I often feel that I have so much to do, yet my time is so limited. I try to set a timetable so as to plan beforehand what I should do every day, but I generally find it impossible to stick to it, maybe because I am not always that realistic. As a result I end up working a 7 day week, with fewer hours on Saturday and Sunday, but still I do some work on these days too. What do you do? Do you work a 5 day week, or do you also end up working over the weekend as well?

Many times i was trying to set up my time tables and it never worked for me. Sometimes new sale pops up in the midnight, on sathurday or sunday and i just do it, no matter what is the time of the day or which day is it. Sometime i work on new projects and if it's few days project i usually don't like to break in meantime because it's easier to do all the way then remembering how far did you go last time... Sometime i got stuck on some problem so i need to research on internet how to overcome that... So, many times i spend 10 to 14 hours a day and even on weekends to do my work or something else connected to that. It's too much, but i still feel OK with that As a freelancer, do you work in the weekend too?

Yes, I work every day of the year. Even when I go on vacation. If I don't, I'll get too far behind. I haven't actually taken a real day off in over 4 years.

Thank you for your comments, it was nice to see that I am not the only one who gets to work on weekends. I agree with you all, it is difficult to stop working as you can be online anytime nowadays with mobile devices. So even when you are out, in a restaurant or even on holiday you find yourself checking what emails you got. Freelancing is a flexible job and the hours seem never ending as people can contact you to place an order any day, any time. However even though it gets stressful sometimes it is good to feel busy and to have your services wanted. I found out that you can build a great relationship with some clients too. So all in all it is a job I really like.

Hi Thanks for a good and vital question for all freelancer. Yesterday I said in another FAQ, as a freelancer I am not freedom according to all freedom norms. It is true that a freelancer always responsible for his duty even it is holyday or weekend.
I going to telling my some short experience in last 7 years. When I start working as freelancer or outsource contractor, I have given over 18 hours in a day and 7 days in a week. And still I am working over 15 hours in 24 hours. This profession make me very happy but for minting free time, it is very difficult even if you think it is weekend.

And sometimes it is difficult to make understand to your client when is weekend in your country. For example, like my country BD weekend is Friday but in USA weekend is Sunday. Even each year's holiday also different and it is depend on religious. So, if your client from USA, he should demand to do work for him even Friday. So, it is very difficult to get you free in weekend.

I am working still 15 hours in remains 6 days and in weekend day I am working over 9 hours.

And I specially take some plan to do work in weekend day. But do not get much free time in weekend even in year holiday.

Thanks by ajlancer

I work during weekends during busy times. At the end of the day, if you want the money then you need to work and that may mean weekends to meet tight deadlines. It is very important to meet deadlines because this will keep clients happy and they will more likely to give you more work which results in more income. I don’t know why but when I set timetables for different projects, I seem to never finish on time, leaving me with lots of work to do during weekends. However, as a freelancer, I can have a day off on any day I want so I can go out on Monday and Tuesday and work during weekends. This is one of the advantages with being a freelancer. Even when I am having a day off, I try to maintain good communication with my clients; I receive emails when clients contact me and I have Skype on my phone so I can reply to them on my phone when I am out so is it really a day off? It is tough being a freelancer but this is the same with any job and each has their advantages and disadvantages so it really just comes down to preference for which one is better.

I work during the weekends, even in the holidays. I work every day with any breaks. Even when I am in vacation, I work. However, this happens only when I have work. If I have work, I will be always working. I accept work even during the weekends or holidays. As a freelancer I cannot afford to reject work. I sell when the tides are high.

With my full time job in the office, my weekday schedule is always hectic so the weekend is reserved for rest and relaxation aside from fulfilling social obligations. But I admit that I work online not only on weekends but also on holidays and even when I am on vacation. I do not want to waste the opportunity of earning no matter the amount. That's my dedication to my work whether offline or online.

If you have a full-time job, it is difficult to give a lot of time in freelancing. Therefore, if you can spend few hours on the weekends when you do not have to go to your workplace, you can make money as a freelancer. If you want to maximize your earning, you will have to work as long as you have freelancing contracts. When I married, I did not go for the honeymoon because I had a lot of writing contracts.
