    Do you use news to inspire new discussions?

    The news can be a good source of discussion starters, especially if you can find niche news or others for your general chat section. Do you use this idea as a way to get new content? Maybe by quoting the news source, linking to it and asking for comments.

    Yes I have before. I have found some stories that really interested me and asked for others opinions on it before.

    It's really good when you have a niche forum such as cloud computing or webmaster/SEO and find a real news story that benefits the community. Though much of a forum is based around evergreen Q&A type questions.

    Right but you can use a topic that you have seen in the news and ask what do you think about this? Or give your two cents. That is what I like doing.

    Maybe it would be better to have a news section on the forum where niche (or general) news can be discussed.

    Yes that would work great as well. Just a place to discuss what is going on in the world.

    People love to comment on daily/niche news if given the chance. Why not have a section on your forum for niche news where they can voice an opinion?

    News items that are relevant to the forum's theme is a good motivator for posters. I have seen in several forums posts about the threats of North Korea and Donald Trump. Bombing Guam is a hot topic and obviously, people are interested. Aside from news, current trends are also good topics. The fidget spinner is seeing exposure in some forums.
