Why wont Google index my website or list my site in the results?
search Google for:
site:URL and see what happens. If it isn't indexed, than you probably messed up with robots.txt or you really don't have any quality link to your site. Posting your URL here would be helpful.

I have been reading in some discussions about robot.txt which I believe is a text file. Is this imperative for the site to welcome the search engine crawlers? What if I have a blog and I don’t know about that text file, would my site be crawled or not? If the site is not in the search list of 10 pages then I guess it has to build the contents and the keywords for search engines ignore new sites with little contents.
Use a site submitter to get you started or manually add your link to Google. Also, sign up for a Google Webmaster account. That may help you.
Simple, use ping service. Here is a forum post how you can do Pings to your URLs. What is best Ping Services you use
Hope this helps.

This question is like talking to the phone with the doctor and ask him to tell you why you blood pressure is too high.
We can make assumption but we can not give an appropriate answer
Pardon me for asking but does your website have good contents and are you uploading good contents regularly? Based on my understanding with discussions about Google, the website should always be current so it can be considered by Google and all the other search engines. Maybe you have to create more web pages and put in good contents that are unique and not copied from other sources.
