Is Search Engine Optimization fully dependent on Google and other Search Engines? I mean hypothetically, if there where no search engines would would SEO exist?
It just crossed my mind and I like to know your opinion on this.
I'm not sure you could have the Internet without a search engine. I suppose people could click on a button for a particular subject or something like that, but it would not have the same appeal. My thought is that Google tends to create SEO seeing we are all trying hard to catch its eye and be ranked first in searches. So yes, Google et al did and do creater SEO and it would not exist without them.

Now you say it I see the sense. SEO is created by search engines. They enjoy us fighting to catch their eye. I agree.
I think SEO is about content creators trying to tell search spiders that what you've created is what someone who entered a search query in a search box, is looking for. So SEO certainly is dependent on search engines.
I believe that even if search engines didn't exist and all the information we sought would only be available in directories, they too would still need to have a way to help you find what you are seeking easily. And to find what you seek, you'd have to enter keywords in a search box.
Whether search existed or not, we'd still naturally use keywords in written content. These keywords, especially in titles would grab the attention of readers, inform that you've got what they are seeking.
Very true indeed. It is on this context I said, we are the creators of SEO. Search Engines just grab from us. Keywords are still keywords and stand out in searches.
I agree that SEO would exist even without Search Engines. Search engines are not a SEO prerequisite.
You have a great point. Google and other search engines are like on the top of SEO.
I don't think you can have the Internet without a search engine or a browser. Google has such an excellent search engine that its name has become almost a synonym for “search engine”. But most of us know that Google is not the ONLY search engine. So the answer is NO. SEO or search engine optimization is not dependent on Google. It's the company Google that depends on having a search engine that's better than all of its competitors. SO far they're doing quite well at being the best that they can be.
We normally say you Google what you want and you will get it. 'To google' is the verb denoting one searches in search engines. Google (n) is on the lead.
It is the SEO companies that rely on Google for them to make money. Google being the largest search engine company in the world has numerous visitors who the seos try to influence.
The full meaning of SEO is Search Engine Optimization. The fact that "Search Engine" takes up two of the three words should already say something about whether SEO can exist without search engines. You need search engines for SEO to work. If not, how will users find results to what they need without searching for it? I think SEO was designed for search engines and will not work without it. But who knows? Programmers might find a way for SEO to generate traffic without resorting to search engines like google. Technological breakthroughs have a way of blind surprising us the right way.
SEO and Search Engines are inseparable. One depends on the other. Since we also search then we are also responsible for SEO. We are also the ones who seek for optimization.
Without search engines then there would be nothing to optimize. You can create all the keywords you want but they are quite useless if they do not have the platform to be used on.
Yes, search engines are like the vehicles in spaces. Without it, everything is impossible. Had it not with it, we are not here to share and learn ideas. There will be no interconnection among information and communication.
How about optimixing in Social Media Platforms let's say Facebook for example.
I agree with you. They are two things that cannot be separated. I don't know how SEO I would function if the search engines are removed from it's structure.
SEO is for us. We search and we optimize. Search engines also search and put them there fir us. So it begins with the searcher who makes search engines to compile and make available
There is always that need to seek knowledge and we can always find it out by going on a research. So, SEO has a big role to play when it comes to this kind of situation as well.
Yeah, there are even services who offer to type in something you want numerous amount of times you want (depending on the order), and it will affect the search results eventually. But yeah, back to the subject, I think everything is dependent on Google. But the searcher has a key role to play in this regard.
Man is meant to always find a way and this is one of the reasons you have the search engines. I mean the core aim of the search engine is to assist anyone that is trying to find a way to some answers to get it. I believe that this is the basics when we are talking about the internet.
I think that the concentration of keywords, device and actions is a study of everyone for the rich to get richer and project their agenda or influence. Affiliate marketing just creates backlinks for big companies. And only a few chosen will find success in this game. Others will find it provides their daily bread.
On a positive note, if you can master all of the levels and know what's coming next (engineering the future, humanism, bioengineering & A?) Then you will contribute to this study. It's really hard to be successful unless you have a product that's original and of value. Too many people doing the same thing like a robot!
Thanks for reading
Since it relies on search engines existing, no SEO would not exist. How could you optimize a search when the search engine itself does not exist? Originally- when there were very few computer in use- people just knew the addresses of websites they were looking for. Its only now, with all the websites and information that exists, that SEO exists as companies and people try to get their page to the front of all searches to be seen by the most people.
I agree with you. I cannot even imagine how SEO I would work without the presence of a search engine. People are not knowledgeable of the sites that they can go directly to somewhere that answers their queries.
How about a search using a different platform like social media a good example would be Facebook.
Let's be honest, I think everything on the internet is dependent on Google, including SEO.
There's a saying: "Google it". I think it pretty much sums it up. Anything can be done and undone with Google. It's a beast of a machine and service.
I totally agree with you. I think it is imossible for other people to search about SEO without using the search engine. Most websites cannot generate traffic without search engines and most of all, people wouldn't spend too much time trying to guess the exact url or website just to find something. Internet wouldn't be effective without that search engines.
Yes it is. Search engines like Google, Bing, and many others. are websites which are primarily based on algorithms to search the net as according to your input. You need a web browser to open a search engine website like Google to search for data on line.
I think it's more of mutualism between the search engines like Google and the SEO. They both get something from one another. There are other search engines aside from Google same as SEO which has so many contents. It's just like a waiter-customer scenario. The customer is the one who searches food. The Google is the waiter who serves it. And SEO is the food itself. That's how I see it.
You spoke very well, now that you mention it... Well in my opinion Google is the biggest think on the internet, i know you get that but still...
People who work hard on SEO for their sites and online businesses do so with google mostly if not totally in mind. Getting ranked highly on other search engines is great, but Google is every site owners main target.
True. Like everything we want to know, to see, search about it, its all where we can find on google. And its really reliable because there is so many answers that we can get just to know what we are looking for. But we have to accept that that still google is where we can go if we really need an information specially about SEO that we would like to know. The feedbacks and reviews about it are already there we ll need is just to read it.
I don't really know if it is dependent on google because never tried searching it. But I guess it is, I mean google is the most famous search engines out there so maybe.
Before my comment let it be known that I am not an authority on the subject and I am answering based on what I had read in this site. SEO means search engine optimization so the SEO methods that you do on your site will apply on all search engines. Why don’t you try Bing or Ask so that it can give you a complete idea on what I am saying. Google is the most popular and biggest search engine but it’s not the only one.
If you're doing good on google you should be killing it on other search engines, right? Well - not necessarily. Sometimes you aren't even listed in the results for your relevant keywords despite being popular on google. Each search engine has a different system.
If you google the question you get a No for an answer. SEO is not and will never be dependent on search engines. SEO doesn't even need search engines.
Yes absolutely. Without search engines, there is no SEO. It is solely dependent on search engines. It goes through key words and page links and is heavily reliant on page rank algorithm of Google. Google has indeed made our lives simpler and SEO is indeed very reliant on search engines
How can we optimize search engine when there are no search engine? SEO exist because of the presence of search engines. Actually, SEO is a new term for me while search engine as been around for more than a decade. I don't know if I'm just late boomer in these kind of terminologies but I never heard of SEO way back in 90's and early 2000 google, yahoo and other search engines had already gained popularity. I happened to know SEO just recently when I decided to learn programming online so I think SEO is dependent on search engines.
Without search engines and Google, SEO will not be there right!
If there were no search engines, then Search Engine Optimization (SEO) wouldn't really have a point now would it? Because that's what we are trying to do with SEO, optimize the website so that the search engine lists our site above others when poeple search for certain terms!
