How do you hire developers?

I've tried to find a developer for a plugin to be developed to join my forum and my website which will be on two different hosts. The forum will be powered by MyBB. I have had to give up and code my very own forum software now because I haven't been able to find a developer for the job. I tried Fiverr first but I got all types of responses where people didn't even read what I needed (I got responses for website builders and designers). How do you guys manage to find developers for any projects that you have?

I haven't hired any, but if I did, it would be my son. He is a website coder and does that and IT for a living, so he would be the first person I would turn to if I needed something like that done.

I think that it's natural to find random people that don't even bother reading before applying... that's just how some are. But simply be polite and reject them. Sometimes it might take a while to find a good developer for a specific job but it can also depend on other factors such as how much are you willing to pay them? Perhaps none contacted you because the price is low?

You should definitely be able to find at least a few though. Besides Fiverr I also recommend that you look at:
- UpWork;
- GitHub,
- TopTal.

Also a heads up. Before you hire the developer, test him out a bit so he can prove that he knows what he's actually doing ;)

I think here we can get more developers if your projects are not too big.
Some can handle all works that I need on my site though.

I think you have to explain what you want. And then you have to get the tasks broken down into steps. And then hire developer and check those tasks. This way you'd be able to get the work done lot better. I am not sure if you pay small or high. But depending on that cost factor, you'd attract better developers. That's what I have experience these days. Money attracts better developers.

It depends, whenever I'm in need of a pair developer I use my contacts to get someone I can trust. Of course, that comes at a price but I would much rather hire someone I'm in direct contact with. If you have contacts, use them.

It is extremely hard to get a great programmer if you are not a good one. It is difficult for someone not a programming expert to know what is to look for in programmers you want to hire. We have to talk to our friends who have already programming background. You have to find the programmers to the venue for them . You have to spend time with them. You can not simply poach out of Facebook or Microsoft.

You can find expert forum developers on several marketplaces. There are huge and huge developers are available via several marketplaces. Just go to google.com and register with some other marketplaces. You will find the developer hopefully.

I find freelancers via freelancer sites and forums, especially on forums, you can find more experts in the fields you are wanting. You can check their profiles to see if they had good products there or provided good support too.

I think you can find a developer in this marketplace. You just have to be clear with the duties and responsibilities particularly with the technical work that you intend to assign to him.
