Can a new forum software still enter the market?

There are some massive forum software out there at the moment: myBB, phpBB, XenForo and IPB. vBulletin seems to have died down and personally I doubt it will come back from this. But do you think there is space in the market for a new forum software to enter? Is it possible for a new entrant to compete with the current big four forum software? Personally, I think that if a forum software was developed that incorporated a lot of features that users have been suggesting then it may actually do well. As long as it does not have too many bugs, has a lot of plugins/themes and has a good community behind it, then it can do very well. What do you guys think?

As long as forums exist and that you have something to offer others can't give. You can always put out a new forum software out there. Standing out is the part that will be difficult but if you already have a unique feature in mind, I don't think you would have any problem at all.

I know of some forum owners who are on the lookout for new forum software not because they need one but they are the discoverer type of people who just want to try something new. As you said it, as long as there are forums then the demand for forum software will always be there and the only crux is the new feature of the new forum that would give an advantage over the existing forum software.

Sure, it can enter the market if the necessary publicity and distributions are made.
Hire experts to do the right things for you and the story will change to a better one.

Xenforo was into the market when there was already VBulletin and IPB making a lot of money into the market. And for me I think it's easy for some of such software to enter into market. I have found that if people want they can easily manage such market without having to worry about the people. Because if the software is good enough, then surely they can enter into the market. So it is possible that forum software can enter into the market.

I agree with you if the software is good enough then i ma sure that they can enter to the market. Forums permit members to post discussions in concrete categories. You can find organized information and can be searched easily.

True that's why there are some forum softwares which are entering. Say like Vanilla forums. And people don't even know about them. You can see that it'd be helpful to make use of those forums. I'd personally prefer to make use of the IPB or the MyBB. But depends on use some of the times.

True, even if you are new to the market but customers have already seen the good things you give out, they'll be happy to switch to use your product.

I think it can, there's still a lot of room for improvement with the current forum softwares available. If you can provide those improvements, then your program might even be bigger than them. If you offer more features to make an even better-looking forum that would be on par with current website design standards, then that would be even better.

It surely can. There is always room for new things. Not just when it comes to forum softwares but to anything. Even if it is a tough business it doesn't mean that a new competitor can't suddenly appear. Just look at applications like Snapchat and Instagram. Nobody expected them to be this huge but they are.

Same goes for forum software. If it was well-developed, easy to use yet had key features that the current ones are lacking, people would definitely use it. You just have to be creative and knowledgeable enough to make it happen.

I think it is possible for a forum software can enter the market if they can provider quality services to users.
For example:
Security
Free or Paid (for paid forum cms, it needs a reasonable price)
A good theme (reponsive is required)
More plugins/addons
Good support.

This is true, a lot of forums these days lack the modern look in my opinion. Lots of them still look like they weren't designed in CSS3 and they look like websites that are a decade old. I think what a new forum software needs are a good palette of theme choices that look modern and professional.

There's no problem if a new forum software will enter the market and will compete with the old ones especially if they have good features that other forum software doesn't have. All they need to do since they are still starting, they should focus on promoting the site to social media and do some advertisements on popular websites.

Try to choose wisly because with a proper start you can achieve something big. However, your forums will function properly when hosted on a righ platform. For example eUKhost provides powerful linux VPS hosting with entreprise-class SSD storage providing superior performance in any application backed with latest technologiy and fully managed support services.

Of course, it can. Most of the forum software are lacking in improvements. If you can bring any forum software with more innovative features and better themes than the current softwares in the market , you can stand up to the competition .

I'm sure it can. No matter what the field is, there's always room for improvement and most users will turn to whatever works best. Offering them something new and better, but available enough is a simple but reliable way to make a way for your software. As one dies out the others can too, it just depends what else is on the market.

I believe a forum software with extremely modern features/web standards would thrive. Just offer something exceptional and make it more uniform with the kind of websites we see today. It should be accepted just fine!

I think there is always room for a new kid on the block. As long as you have a quality product that can do something different than other blogs can do..why not? it might be just the thing for new users. I think it is a way that people might get the features they are looking for in forum software.

sure why not, that previous software failed because there were not up to standard and they never took the suggestions of the users into considerations.

for a new product to do well in the market, suggestions by the users must be ultimate like wise for a new software for a forum.to build or compete with already existing software one should do the following:

Enhance the previous software in the market
promote your software radically
take opinion poll by the users to know where to work on

The Good thing I love about forums is the interaction between the people who post threads and the rest of the audiance, You give an Idea or ask a question and you get a bunch of answers, And as long as you keep that you can be a mogul even with a Forum software, Forums have secrets now it is easy to get people to post on your forum as long as you keep them interested, So my answer is yes a Forums can enter the Market and even lead it as long as it has an audience.

Forums alone are on the way out. In my personal opinion you need to have a CMS to drive traffic to your forum. Because a forum alone will not survive by itself anymore. Social media is killing forums at a rapid rate. And even if you have a CMS you're not guaranteed to survive.

I just upgraded my forum to Xenforo 2 and I think its the best forum software out there and other forum software doesn't stand a chance. It very easy to use and the control panel is very in depth that gives you lots of options. I will admit though that it took some time to get used to the new control panel but once I got used to it, using it was a breeze. I would recommend everyone with Xenforo to upgrade, but I know some people are waiting on plugins.

Any software is welcome whether it is a forum software or for other purposes. As long as the software can be beneficial to users then it has a good chance of competing with the existing software in the forum industry. But I guess the new software should be provided to users for free as a means of being tested. When the software is good then it will get good reviews that will lead to more users eventually.

I'm sure that new forum software can enter the market and be as successful as Xenforo. All it takes is creating something excellent which both users and admins will like.

The rest is dependent on marketing. If the company or person who creates the forum software has a lot of money to spend on ads, then I'm sure that if that forum software is any good, there are people who'll be willing to try it out.
