4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

When it comes to social media, it's a great way to find new clients and also be found yourself.  When you're running a social media campaign, or just working on your social media profiles you're basically working on lead generation.  It's a bit different when it comes to working with Instagram since it's pretty closed off from the rest of the world.  Now I'm not saying that you can't access it if you were from an exotic location, I'm just saying there isn't much linking to be clicked on to move you away from the platform like all other platforms.  That being said, Instagram is still a pretty solid platform to help build your email lists.

Emailing has the best ROI over pretty much anything when it comes to marketing.  This is because people who sign up for your newsletters are waiting to see what you send them, which means they're interested in your products and services.  You don't have to worry about algorithm changes like in SEO because there are none lol.  You get a vote of confidence from the user and they allow you to email them, it's as simple as that, and now you can use Instagram to help get more people to sign up 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

The beauty of email lists is that you can continually market to people over time, unless they unsubscribe.  People regularly sign up to newsletters to see what you're all about prior to signing up for a month service or making a purchase decision, so get to collecting those emails already lol 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

In this discussion I'll be going over how you can use Instagram to help increase your email list in order to pull in more sales and sign ups down the road 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

1. Mention Your Newsletters
The easiest way to get your list started, or to build it up, is to simply mention that you have a newsletter and you would encourage people to sign up to it.  Don't do it all the time because it could get annoying, I would say that if you're posting to Instagram every day, you can mention your newsletter once a week and still be in good graces with your followers.  If you're asking too often you could actually lose followers in a short amount of time.

After you get them signed up to your newsletter you now have 2 ways to get your business in front of them, which increases your chances of getting sign ups 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

2. Pull them off of Instagram
Use your bio to pull people off of Instagram to a page specifically designed for people leaving.  You don't want to send them to just any page, make something on your site that welcomes them in and thanks them for leaving Instagram for a short amount of time in order to visit your website.  People will enjoy the little bit of content you make in order to thank them because you took an extra step to go out of your way to show them you care instead of just sending them to a product page lol 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

On this page you will add a snippet of content and then under it you can add your email capture form.  The sign up rate for this is pretty good because you're making someone happy by acknowledging them and they will return the nicety by signing up for your newsletter 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

You do need to remember that Instagram is a visuals platform, so add plenty of Images around your text in order to get people interested.  Don't over complicate the email capture form either, if you're asking them 20 questions prior to signing up, they will leave your page right away.

If you have a pop up newsletter system, I would highly recommend disabling it on this page.  This is because people are on their phones and they don't want the entire screen to get taken over by your pop up.  The form on the page is powerful enough because it doesn't seem like you're annoying them.

3. Give them a reason to leave Instagram
If you give something away for Free, people on Instagram will more than likely click through and leave the platform to view your website.  They don't mind leaving for something that is free because they will always have the Instagram app on their phone and they can go back whenever they want.  Your website however won't always be there, so you need to capitalize on this however you can.

Besides just sharing a URL, you need to tell them why they should leave Instagram to check it out.  Tell them it's 100% Free and there is no credit card required, no account required, no contract required, etc.  You will simply have them sign up for the Free item or ebook and that will capture their information for you.  Then your automated system will email them the ebook, coupon code, notification on their product being shipped, etc. and they will be happy.

4. Use Ads
Instagram ads are using the same back end as Facebook which means you can get pretty targeted when it comes to who your ads will be seen by.  This also means that you will have a better chance at getting sign ups and sales because the more people who are super targeted, the more likely they will enjoy your post or website 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

This method is one of my favorites because I don't have to rely on any tricks or influencers in order to pull people to my profile or website.  I simply choose what types of keywords I want to target and then set my overall budget and how long I want the ad to run and I'm good to go 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

Using Instagram to build an email list is still new to the majority of people out there.  Sure, a lot of you may already know how to use Instagram in order to help build an email list, but you're not the majority 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list  I'm more referring to new webmasters who are wanting to make a sale or two with as little effort as possible 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list  Building your email lists will only compound and get better over time like a fine wine 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

In Conclusion:
Instagram is only getting bigger and better as time goes on.  I've found myself browsing through pictures randomly while killing time and I didn't know why.  It was because there were profiles I liked and I wanted to see images and content around the topics they talked about.  I would get pulled in and click through randomly on links that were intriguing 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list

Nice tips Razzy, I never thought of growing my email list by using Instagram. I agree that Instagram can be a great wait to lead users to buy products located outside Instagram, but for that to happen you must spark their interest enough so they will check your profile link or do a Google search on the product you are advertising (and you need to be in the first position for that).

Growing an email list has always been hard and doing it over Instagram should definitely be something to try out, though growing it by spending money on Instagram ads seems a bit overreaching. It won't be a first-hand conversion and you will lose some of those clicks over email subscription and a second time over email newsletter.

Can you not promote your product directly to Instagram? Let’s say your product is clothing, maybe you can post your picture holding a dress with a caption that says about your retailing business. I agree that if you have many followers in Instagram then you can be a sort of influencer on your own capability that you can use that for your marketing activity. I just cannot say if you can really build your email listing via Instagram if you don’t have a lot of followers.

That's really clever... I am not ashamed to admit that I didn't really know how to use Instagram in this way 4 ways you can use Instagram to build or grow your email list but hey, I still have plenty to learn and that's why I always enjoy reading through articles like yours.

The number 3 is definitely a home run. It will always work. Free things = a lot of people and clicks. But yeah, I agree that you have to fully explain to them that free actually means free, without any hidden agenda. If you do that, they won't hesitate to sign up for whatever it is... even if it's something small like a gift card. It's a smart way of acquiring people's emails. Thank you for the tips!

What a really nice write up!

I'm not an Instagram user (though I may be in the future) so I cannot use this to my advantage but other people could learn a lot from this. Maybe you have tips for someone who uses Twitter?

Guess it's time for me to create my own business instagram page huh. Thanks man for sharing your knowledge and experience in this area, I appreciate it. I did not know Ads where available on instagram to, that's a great thing because I think instagram is a portal where you easily can express and share your passion/niche on a more personal level if that makes sense. Getting to know your audience and making your presence known while building up trust to your audience is a real benefit.

I think you have some great ideas there. I don't have an account on Instagram but I am thinking that maybe I should get one. It would be interesting to see what other people are up to and of course you can promote your blog as well. Thanks for the suggestions!

Great tips, considering the fact that Instagram is growing steadily I'm sure this can be useful. I also didn't know that you could use actual ads on Instagram. The 3rd one is probably the best way out of all.

Razzy,
Nice tips as usual, but I am still having issues figuring out how to use my ads just in general. In any case, I know Instagram is very popular with millennials, and a lot of my blogging content is appreciated by them. I must confess that I do not yet have an Instagram account, but after reading this, I am thinking of opening one up.

I notice this App is not available for computers. I am not so much for working on mobiles. Is there a way I can get to download this App on my computers. I am missing a lot as my passion is photography.

I agree with the first three points but the 4th is not good Because not all people are okay with advertisements, some people including me are supper annoyed by ads, And they even use adblocker for this reason, however I think you can still get your audience to follow you anywhere even subscribe on your YouTube channels just as long as you give them quality stuffs only.

Another insightful piece, I think getting people to sign-up on one's site could be less of work if we practicalize what we read. Most times we just read without putting it to action. These points if practicalize would bring more people to our mailing list.Another point is writing about what your title of your topic says. Some bloggers just trick people to their website with the catchy headline but the content is trashy. This can be very annonying.

I think having a newsletter is a big effort on your part. It’s not easy to be writing a newsletter regularly. But in fairness, I understand that the newsletter is one way of giving focus to your business and people receiving it will surely think it is interesting whenever it is relevant to them. However, it is another effort to send out newsletter because I have to admit that I am not interested in receiving such via email.

I have an instagram account, however, I am not using instagram for business or marketing purpose. I even don't know to to make use of instagram. I am on Pintertest where I can share links from my blogs or even affiliate products, however, I don't know how does image sharing works on instagram. You can of course have a link on your profile, however, I do not know how marketing works.
