Obviously having more Facebook likes can help you to get lots of traffic. Facebook nowadays is very powerful and you should try to get as many likes as possible.

The more likes you can get, the better it is.

Facebook likes do not guarantee traffic. What if the person who liked your link on facebook, does not click the link? If this is a case, there will be no traffic. However, getting like on facebook increases the chances of generating traffic. The person who liked your link may want to check your link (a person likes a post only if he actually liked the topic).
However, facebook likes send social signals to your website. Social signals are important for ranks.

When you post a marketing spiel for your website in Facebook, you will get likes if your Facebook account is dynamic which means you have an established presence. So when you post something, you will get genuine reaction. With the likes that you get on your posts, I think search engines are taking note of that. Isn’t it a plus factor if your post gets a thousand likes than a blog that got a few reads? We cannot determine the algorithm used by search engines but I think the Facebook likes have a score for the benefit of the SEO of the website.

Yes. The more likes your page has, Facebook increases the volume of your ads hence the traffic. That's what inexperienced on one of my new pages.
