Is there a way to change the images in Google search results?

Hey guys,
I've been curious to know this for a few years actually, but I never bothered with this until recently when I saw a similar question. I wonder if it's possible to change the images on Google that comes up whenever you're searching for something?

Here, let me show you what I mean:

Is there a way to change the images in Google search results?

As you can see, I went to Google and I was searching for "seoclerks", but instead of using the "all" tab, I went with the "images" one. - That way, images is the only thing that will come up. Just like in the above screenshot.

However, what I wonder is, if this is actually something you can change, and if you can. How do you actually change them?

I suppose this has to be due to backlinks and rankings and this sort of stuff? - Am I right?

It would be awesome to hear a good explanation for this, and also the exact way of changing these images, in case you can do it.

Best Regards,

Yeah images are web properties just like websites. And every property on the Internet is ranked by Google according to its own SEO rating/score. If you hover over the images, Google will show you the website that each image is on/from. For that particular search term, Google is ranking SEOClerks high as well as several other high ranking and authority sites as well.
However, what I wonder is, if this is actually something you can change, and if you can. How do you actually change them?

Change them in what way do you mean mate? As in, get your images ranking high instead of the ones that are actually showing on the first page there now? If so it is possible yes, all things are possible to him who believes. Is there a way to change the images in Google search results? But the way to go about it would really be to put some images on your site, make them new if possible, then use the main keywords "seoclerk" or "seoclerks" etc etc as not only the file names (seoclerks-image.jpg etc) and in the meta alt tag and in the meta exif information as well (the image properties).

Then of course, you would have to SEO that site and or the page/post those images are in. Google will crawl and index them like all the others and eventually start showing them in Google Images results for those keywords. The trick would be to do enough SEO on your site so that Google ranks it high and then it would also subsequently rank your images high on that site in Google Image search results too. You could also just create tons and tons of cool SEOClerks based images and keep posting them to your site. You could create some kind of gallery or wallpaper site or something that is dedicated to and specializes in SEOClerks images and if you just kept adding new images to it all the time using the words within them and on the page, in the title etc etc, Google would eventually rank them too.

Sometimes Google just shows images based on what it thinks you might like all the time depending on some contributing factors like your search history, current cookies, time of day etc. And it might show different images for different people around the world.

I love Google images, I find it sometimes much more useful to find what I'm looking for visually instead of using the basic standard listed search results and that saves me a lot of time and a lot of not having to visit random sites and wait for them to load only to find out it doesn't actually have what I was looking for anyway! lol Is there a way to change the images in Google search results?

But hope this helps!

Mike.

Wow, thank you Mike. Awesome explanation!

Yeah, I don't want to rank (change) images for the "seoclerks" search term, I was just using that as an example, but it's awesome to hear the steps to do it.

I mean, I can find things about me, if I search for my real name, and those things are from Facebook and other websites, where I've never really done anything for it to come up in searches. That's mainly why I asked this question. I would've preferred to chose the things that shows up myself, instead of Google just deciding for me what photos to show etc. - But I think I understand how everything works now, after your answer, so I truly appreciate it!

Andre I think Mike has really nailed this. Images have rankings just like everything else, all the images online can be found in Google image search but they need to be optimized.

So if you want your images to be #1 on Google for those search terms you need to properly optimize those images and your posts for SEO.

As explained above it is all about optimization. Unfortunately there is still not that much importance being placed on the need to use keywords for images too, and as a result they do not always get properly optimized.

Ranking in Google Images is just like ranking web pages in Google search. You need to be relevant, have an alt tag to your image that reflects the keywords in questions but also has an appropriate file name. There are others ranking aspects that may get your images to get good positions in Google images but alt tag and file name is enough for most websites in my opinion.

Also, what exactly are you planning to change? You can't change anything about Google images results, just things about your image, maybe take it down or change it. You can also run a DMCA against websites that are using your images / propriety without your permission.
