Chrome will kill its webstore in 2018 - Why is Chrome doing that?

Chrome is planning to kill its webstore in 2018 for Windows,Mac and Linux. The only system where they still will be available, and receiving future updates is Chrome OS. When I first read the announcement by Google I thought they were planning to kill all webstore that contains all apps and extensions..And I was like..Wait.. no more Adblocker!?? Apparently, this change will not affect extensions and themes, but only the chrome apps.

However, I’ve never used any chrome apps in my browser, and I've never liked them, but i am sure that there are people who use them every day.

Google Announcement:

As we continue our efforts to simplify Chrome, we believe it’s time to begin the evolution away from the Chrome apps platform. There are two types of Chrome apps: packaged apps and hosted apps. Today, approximately 1% of users on Windows, Mac and Linux actively use Chrome packaged apps, and most hosted apps are already implemented as regular web apps. We will be removing support for packaged and hosted apps from Chrome on Windows, Mac, and Linux over the next two years.

1% is really a small percentage of people which are using those apps, but I’m not sure if that statistics include the Chromebook users too.

What do you think about this?
Would you switch to Chrome OS in order to keep using these apps?

Hmmmm I wonder what their reasoning is for this. I understand that only 1% of it's users will be affected, but as we all know, one bad review can ruin you business. Now if all of those 1% post bad reviews, you're going to hate what you did lol Chrome will kill its webstore in 2018 - Why is Chrome doing that? I wonder if there is going to be something new coming out that Google hasn't released info on yet.

I personally don't use Chrome and even if I use Google, it's just to check something in terms of my rankings Chrome will kill its webstore in 2018 - Why is Chrome doing that?

Could the webstore just be a leach on their servers and it's not worth it to keep it going? This is a possibility, but with the billions that Google makes each year, why would they take this down if only 1% of people are using it and not killing your pocket book lol.

Why don't they take down Google plus!!! That piece of (shut yo mouth) was never going to compete with Google and should have been taken down a long time ago haha Chrome will kill its webstore in 2018 - Why is Chrome doing that? Take away stuff no one likes, uses, or has a good time on like Google plus. Keep the webstore because there actually is some pretty cool stuff on there. Yeah, I know I said I don't use Chrome, but there was a time long ago in a galaxy far far away when a Razzy used Chrome and liked it lol Chrome will kill its webstore in 2018 - Why is Chrome doing that?

Hahaha Razzy, there you've said it. Take down Google Plus! I haven't used the webstore so I don't know what is there...

I use Chrome but I don't really like it much. I prefer to use Firefox but there is a long story behind that. Recently I found myself using Chrome.

I would switch to Chrome OS only if we are talking about a Pixel 2 chromebook - those things are lighting fast, they look very cool like nothing on the market and the battery lasts as a laptop should last!
Unfortunately, you have...well, just, Chrome. And as you said, the Chrome Apps.

Anyway, I never used them and I ain't going to miss them, I find extensions sufficient enough.

The primary browser of our home desktop is Chrome but I haven’t been to the Webstore for the apps or plug in. I am a simple user so that’s not really material to me. However, our Chrome has a message that it has stopped its support for computers running on Windows XP. But fortunately, our Chrome browser is still working well so we are not shifting allegiance for now. When it comes to phasing out, Google had phased out Google Drive for Windows XP. And that makes me wonder why.

I think it is all about understanding that Chrome builders are as optimistic as well which makes them have the top belief that saying the truth won't make them lose any of their customers a well. I will be very sad once they fail to apply turn.

I'm not so sure I understand this reason at all. I guess this is a business decision. However If you look at 1% of the people that use chrome, it could be millions and billions of people because Google/Chrome is the worlds biggest search engine, so this makes no sense to me at all. If they think this will help them sell chrome products like their computers they should forget it. This will never happen people will just change to Firefox and Microsoft edge which are quite fast.
