Here's What Happened When I Accidentally Left a Negative Rating

Many moons ago, after a great experience with a freelancer here on SeoClerks, I slipped and rated them NEGATIVELY instead of POSITIVELY! Oh, I was horrified! Not cool. It was a simple mistake.. I was sleep deprived, on my mobile device, and I hit the wrong thumb.. Clumsy.

I immediately messaged the seller a HUGE heartfelt apology, then I contacted Help Desk, begging them to fix my erroneous rating. Within minutes, they removed the feedback. Whew!! I then went back and left a glowing review and positive feedback for the seller.

What a relief! I would've felt just TERRIBLE, if I'd have marred that excellent seller's rating.

HI bobjoehax3 thanks for sharing nice experience with us. I think your seller is lucky for that you are aware about this matter. Yes, I saw some of buyer did mistake such way. For example: want to leave message but unfortunately leave feedback. Or want to leave positive feedback but by mistaken they leave negative feedback. Because of most of the buyer are not aware about system. How to write feedback or how to leave message? You did by mistake, you understand soon and took steps for remove. But, I faced a buyers, and after request to him, even he does not know how to take ticket for necessary steps. It is really need to more aware before leave any message to seller.

What a bummer. I wonder if, in your case, you could contact Help Desk about it yourself.. If the buyer doesn't understand how to do so, maybe you could take screenshots of your conversation with them and attach them to your ticket.. I think I'd at least try, if it were me.. It would be such a pity to have a great rating scarred by such a simple mistake.

An edit button that allowed you to start over or do a full edit would fix this type of honest mistake. I can't see that this would have a downside. It could even lighten the load for the help desk.

When I was working on the Support Desk this was a very common problem. I think some buyers were not use to our rating system and thought they were giving a positive rating but ended up providing a negative rating. All the tickets were the same such as "I meant to give positive rating but it gave a negative".

This probably stems from the buttons that you click on that are laid out side by side. So the negative button is/was right near the positive one, and i think buyers accidentally toggled the negative button by mistake. However, as you've already stated, the support team can help with this!

It's cool to hear it from your end. If lots of people at least asked you to help fix their mistake via Support Desk, then it's not such a rare an occurrence. Here I'm sure that some people wouldn't bother, but I'll bet a lot of folks would take a moment to at least attempt to make it right. I wonder what the ratio is.

I'm not really a buyer here, more of a seller but yeah. I had plenty of clients that changed their initial positive review into a negative one.

Sometimes mobile devices are just disastrous. I hate using my tablet or my smartphone to type, and when i have to i always end up making a mess with lots of mistakes. So u understand how you ended up doing this without realising or wanting to. It is a good thing that you took the time to amend your mistake as rating is really important for sellers. I am sure that the seller appreciated your concern and the fact that you made sure that it was fixed. May all buyers be like you!

Aw, thanks. It just seemed like common courtesy at the time, the least I could do. I'd hope that anyone would attempt to correct their blunder, if it hurt a another person's rating. I felt so terrible about it.

I know what you mean about typing on mobile. Haha, I'm the biggest klutz on my phone.. It's terrible. Glad I'm not the only one. Here

I think I have given a thumbs down here by mistake before. It was a long time ago so I am not sure if it was here or another website but I do remember contacting support to have the thumb turned around and it was rectified very fast and efficiently. Sorry but I can't be sure it was here.

I also felt awful, but I am sure the seller could see it was an accident because I wrote a really nice feedback and then added a thumbs down lol.

Feedback is essential to a sellers business in that it helps them get more sales but also it helps them know whether their customers are happy or not. They can then continue what they are doing, or strive to improve themselves.

Glad to see all this has been dealt with and you've learned a valuable lesson from it all. It's best to take your time when doing things on here as one wrong click in the wrong place can end up causing things like this to happen. I've sometimes done the same thing myself by accident. Fortunately the staff here are amazing and if you open a ticket and explain to them what you've done they should help you reverse it so you can do it again. Doing what you was supposed to do the first time round! Here
