How do you feel about networking to strangers?

I remember a while back I was having a talk with this guy and we were talking a bout how to branch out and what are the best ways to network. So this guy hears me out I tell him how I try to reach out to as many people as possible, even strangers or people that I don't know beyond the social sphere. And, he told me to stop that when it comes to networking and don't network with strangers and that is would be best to start of smaller and smarter He made it clear of how important it is to build relationships in the business world, so I want to know what every one thinks. Do you spread your brand like a virus or do you take your time networking as he mentioned to me ?

Well I think everyone should realize that there is a line between networking and spamming everyone and anyone you know.

I get really annoyed sometimes when I meet someone and within 2 minutes they are trying to shove what they do down my throat. This happens to me in person, on social networks, everywhere. I don't like this approach.

Very often when people meet for the first time some pleasantries and polite questions are asked. When this happens I am always sure to tell them that I am a blogger and online marketer, if they want to see my work they can just Google me. I leave it at that, this is perfect.

I see nothing wrong with networking with as many people as possible, this can do nothing but benefit you.

I usually take my time. I don't do business or partnerships with strangers. I need to get to know the person a little, work on small stuff and follow him on social media for a while until he stops being a stranger and becomes a connection.

I do both. I take my time and discuss or talk with people "near" to me or in the same niche as me.. As I find this being much easier. It's easier for me to get people to understand what I'm talking about if they have some experience themselves. However, whenever I launch a new product of mine for instance, then I'll promote it to all my previous clients, but also to "everyone", so I can reach new potential customers. I'm all for building business relations and I've been doing that for the last couple of years now. At least I've been trying to do that.

Well, people are always skeptical of one another, so networking with strangers might not be that easy.I believe starting with close people that knows one will be better.

Personally, I hardly network with stranger because I believe it might be effort in futility.

Everything is hinged on trust in the sense that, if one can do transactions with certain people that are on freelancing sites, then networking with a stranger is not a big deal. This is simply one of those risk anyone willing to cut an edge in the world of networking is going to take in order to make it.

I start networking with my warm market. As a beginner, I do the basics before. I started building my network with my family, friends, and relatives. Then the first strangers I network with are their referrals. It actually works. I turned them into warm market. Now I build relationships with them. Most of my clients now come from referrals. After learning those basics, it's time to level up. That's the time you can start approaching strangers but make sure you check their background first. I see people build their networks with strangers successfully after learning the basics.

It is very difficult for me to network with strangers. I need to get to know the person better before I start doing business with him. Nowadays there are many fraudsters and we must remain alert. Before networking with any stranger I will also like to know what skills they have and how this can benefit my company.

If you mean by networking is going into business with strangers in the internet, that is certainly a bad idea. But for being connected with people you don’t really know, that is the essence of online networking that can be to your advantage if you have a business to promote. Think of those people in the internet who could see your promotional post and maybe they would react favorably. Connecting to people in the internet is now the name of the game.

Generally speaking, I don't network with a stranger. I only network with high profile individuals or someone I know some the forums and sites I have been envolved with. Most of the friends on my facebook are the people whom I met on writing sites and forum sites.
