    Worried about feeling 'new' on a forum

    I would consider myself an expert in some niches, but not others. And, when I'm on a new forum, especially one that is full of seasoned marketing people, I feel more nervous about bringing up questions which might brand me as a 'noob' or as being 'new'. I want to participate and add content to the forum that would help others, but there are times when I have questions of a very basic nature about some topics and I am just wondering if it's alright to post those too. For instance, maybe about Instagram marketing, not one of my strongest areas of expertise.

    I do not ever worry about being new. I guess we are all there for the same reason so I tend to not worry about it.

    Just relax and read the posts made by other members and get to know them before making your own first post. Then when you post, be sure to explain that you are a new member and just looking for advice. If people really believe you need help, then you will get more sympathy than if you come across as know it all or pretentious.

    I can understand your hesitation about posting. On some webmaster forums that I have visited, they can be hypercritical of new members, especially when they post obvious questions. Usually, I just avoid those places as they are not really worth the effort of being involved.

    I also feel that way even if I am not new anymore to a forum. I don’t know why I consider myself as a newbie or noob until now. Anyway, I am selective with topics that I reply on because I don’t want to be posting something that is out of line. For instance, that SEO thing is still alien to me so I am interested in that subject but extra careful in posting comments. Maybe it is part of the personality to feel “new” to the forum even if you are already there for years.
