Which are the most effective social media buttons?

As any other website i have installed social media share buttons to my website, and regarding to addthis stats it seems that only one of them is being used mostly, and it's not bad i think, currently i'm using only 3 sharing buttons and they are placed in the left upper corner, what other buttons are as effective as facebook, twitter and google+?

Also, do you think that other placement could increase the usage?

Hard to say. On my websites rarely someone use them to share something. I guess they working good only on some popular websites, then it's best to offer as many as you can. So at the moment i add only buttons for social networks where i am planing to share my contents. Don't forget Pinterest!

You have a good point it's features like this that do not ever really take any real effect on smaller websites with smaller traffic it is usually websites with heavy traffic that et a heavy number of shares to other social networks and with websites like that these buttons are more suited out for that people will tend to use the buttons more on things that catch headline attention and what I mean by this is that headline attention as in things stand out from the title so it would be easier to share this and get others interested you know

There are many social media sites and you never know what will work for you. They say reddit is one of the best social media sites for traffic and backlinking, however, reddit did not work for me. For me twitter is working because I have 6K followers on twitter. Therefore, the most effective social media buttons for your website are those social media sites that will be effective for you. What is effective for you will not be effective for me.

I agree that it is always on a case to case basis when it comes to using social media for the promotion and SEO of your business. For me, it will be Facebook because I have many active friends there and they will not let me down when I share something on my timeline for them to react. My Twitter account is almost stagnant with just a handful of followers so I guess it is out of the topic.

That's true. If you are more active on facebook and are inactive on twitter, facebook sharing will be more beneficial to you. As far as the sharing buttons to show on your website is concerned, you should use the most popular social sites and let the visitor choose where he want to share. If the visitor wants to share, he will share it on the site where is more active.

HI procoder thanks for your query. I am sure social signal very effective to promote any website by existing user and bringing traffic from outside too. And somebody also believe social signal very good for SEO effect. Though there has contention. But, all of sense social signal should be good for any website. I think facebook sharing and like button very effective for social promotion on facebook. And G+ also good for involving user from Google circle. I saw who like your website by G+ and if that user search anything on website by your existing keywords, your site always show on top for them, who already made G+ . And pinterest also great option for website button.

I agree that social media buttons are good for SEO. I have never tried to get people to share content or follow my profile via my websites. I know that big site push harder then most but I figure that they can get some measured results which results in a positive.

The reason I don't push the social buttons and try to get people to share content is because of how I tend to I share content. The majority of the time I will share content on the social media platform itself. Same thing with following another member, it is usually directly on the social site.

I would be interested to hear from where members share content to social media. Do you share from a third party website or directly from the social media platform? (Or maybe other)?

yea I am the same way trust me I can understand some times I like to make sure if I do actually want to share some thing that I take the time out to share it on the social page it self and I know quite a few people who would rather deal with this excess then tap that button call preference you can say it is what they are use to be I really do not think that if you are dealing a sight other then face book or Twitter that you are using your tools wisely those sights are your big traffic

The largest and most popular social networks are Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, Instagram, Reddit and Digg I think. Sometimes I guess the more you add the bigger the probability to encourage people to share. Most sites seem to place only Facebook and Twitter buttons since they are the most popular, especially Facebook of course. But I believe that it is better to add various other ones as well, just in case you have people who are more confident in using them or comfortable to share on them. After all you do not have anything to lose. Placement is important too - personally I prefer on the right hand side of the screen.

Yea you got that right about face book no question a bout it it can be tricky trying to figure out which ones to use and how to get things going I do not think that it just falls on the variety you have though to be real honest with you I think it is how you write things and who's attention you are trying to catch you have to remember what is really key here it might not even have to do with which ones you use but how you present your work is your work worth sharing something that people need to share with others ask your self this

I actually started to remove or don't implement as many social buttons as I used too. I've found that people that want to share something, will share it, a button will make it easy for them but won't make them share it more.

Removing social buttons that also have a counter, like the number of facebook likes or number of shares, is very important.
Especially for online stores, having that stupid counter will make people feel uneasy about buying your product when you have a few likes or none. Would you buy a product that will have a lot of social buttons but all of them show a big "0"?

There are a few studies out there, removing social buttons can DO increase sales and even content popularity.

Cristian you are right that if someone wants to share something they will, but doesn't have social sharing buttons just make it that much easier for them?

For me, well I like social share buttons. I like to share right from where I am without opening up my social networks... but I am just one person lol.

I totally agree with what you said about not showing counters, unless of course people have shared your content like crazy and it would benefit you more to do that. Otherwise having counters sitting on zero is not great. It is strange how people are often like sheep isn't it? If something has been shared a lot it seems people are more likely to share it.

so you say there are studies on this that if you actually remove these social buttons that it can increase traffic in the form of sales and also increase my content popularity ? That is great I would love to get a more in depth take on the whole subject and I also think your right about what having the counter can actually do for you and how it can make people feel uneasy about buying from you I can see how you got to that to be honest and it does make sense if I see a zero I would not want to buy either

I think people had been bombarded by Social Buttons for years now. They're like ads, most people don't even see them or notice them anymore. And also like I said, very few use them.

On a landing page, for example, its kind of weird to place social buttons, because you don't want visitors to have other distractions, you want them focused on the landing page alone and the call to action.
Bottom line: Most marketers misplace their social buttons and they generally overuse them.

Oh, well I have social share buttons on my website posts but I don't think I overuse them. At the end of each post are social share buttons and that's it.

How do people overuse them Cristian?

And yes I totally agree there is a time and a place for social share buttons. A landing page is not it.

I have Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Google Plus for my social media buttons.

I find Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus have had the most activity. I would add all of those and sign up for those social networks if you aren't with them. They seem to be the Top 5.

Yea what you have to under stand is that face book being one of the more if not the actual main dominant social network really has things by the choke hold so to speak you are going to get more activity on face book then you would on any other to be honest and Twitter is a close second for the simple fact that Twitter is based off of sharing things with your friends it is actually more built around sharing then face book is I would have to say it is not really a question who is taking the lead here

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

CryptoGuru
I would really have to side with the face book one in this one , it is known fact that Facebook is a sharing website , you log on to face book and you see everything from memes to political videos to videos of cats literal make there ways across your time line time after time and as far as any social network I have ever been on face book has the been the one I seen with the most sharing traffic other then Twitter snap chat and insta gram really are much of a marketing tool people don't really share as much

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Lynne
Yes I agree that if you had to choose one based on actual sharing I would go with Facebook, and if you are going based on traffic alone I would go for Facebook too.... BUT if you are wanting more quality traffic I would go with Twitter.

I have found Facebook traffic has a really high bounce rate and little time spent on my websites whereas Twitter traffic has been much more quality with a lower bounce rate and longer time spent on my websites. This means I would rather focus on Twitter because even though I get less traffic the traffic is better quality.

I agree with you on bounce rate traffic between both Twitter and Facebook. Facebook has a considerably higher bounce.

However, I have worked Twitter harder so I get more traffic here than Facebook.
