Do you think Voice search will take over typed search?

Voice search is becoming more and more popular as smartphones get smarter. More people the ever at using Voice Search at the moment.

Do you think it will eventually me more popular than traditional searching?
How is this going to influence the SEO world?

I personally think both voice search and typed search will expand further and reach somewhat of an equality.
But nevertheless, as for mobile traffic before it, we should not ignore voice searches from SEO perspective. Ranking and getting traffic from simple answers and simple content will be more and more difficult because the search engines are able to provide that answer instantaneously?, nobody can compete with instant answers given directly from the search engine.

So what is your take on all this?

Hi Cristian thanks for asking question. I never think voice search take over type search at least within some years. I do not know what will happen next distance future. For me I always prefer type search and it is working fine too rather than voice search. For example: If you try to search anything by voice call. Exact search term will not working due to accent of English. Because, non English speaker countries people cannot pronounce exactly. And you may see some wrong search term will display on browser. But, by typing search you can search anything without getting such type of error.

So, I think typed search ever best for me.

I think typed search will always be used and popular. I am not even familiar with Voice Search yet. I've never used it but maybe I should give it a go and try it out.

It will be very interesting to see how Voice Search changes the game.

What type of smartphone are you using? Say Ok Google for android and ask for Siri if you have an iphone.
I think voice search is more popular in the USA compared with the rest of the world though. Curious if any sort of related stats exist...

i agree you know voice searching is not really as accurate as just typing your search in could be you know i can understand why it is so popular i really can every thing is easier if you do not got to type it out , and trust me that does make more sense to be able to speak what your trying to say and having your phone recognize it is the best cause it saves you the time of having too type something you know and that is always easier on the user by the end of the day

Well more people are using voice to control their computer now than before and more people are using voice search on their mobiles simply because it's so much easier. I mean, why search for something yourself when you can ask and have it searched for you. Anything like that that is less "hands on" than people are used to normally does quite well. You are right in that it will never compete with instant search results and there's no auto suggest with voice search. You can't get ideas for things to search for using voice search it just does what it's told to do and searches for whatever you ask for. The down side is if you make a mistake or the system makes a mistake in what you really wanted to search for it wont come back to you and say "Did you mean...." it will just search it. Obviously sometimes you may search for something really really obscure that has a funny pronunciation and it might not be able to understand it properly and search for something else instead. In which case, you are forced to revert back to manual typed search instead. But it's something that will improve in time.

Actually, eventually I see people moving away from typed searches altogether. I see PC's being more P than C. I see them becoming like how Tony Stark's computer is in his house. An actual computer that you can talk to and have a long, deep, meaningful and intelligent conversation with. What was that film with that guy who had a relationship with a computer? It was set in the future and eventually his computer started talking to this other computer who was more intellectually stimulating than the guy was and ended up leaving him. I can't remember the name of the film now will have to research it but basically, I see things like that happening in the future.

But yeah, that's my take. Do you think Voice search will take over typed search?

Yeah, but I want to know how all these changes are influencing SEO. There are certain things we must take into consideration for the future if we still want to be relevant for search engines.

Instant answers for Voice Searches are really bugging me at the moment because it means a website will lose that specific user who is getting an instant answer from Siri for example. Just look at how many websites owners lost traffic because Google's implemented instant answers for typed searches.
Webmaster have to start thinking out of the box, especially the ones that offer simple content that can be picked up by search engines and transformed into a instant answer.

You have a good point there Cristian. It never actually occured to me but I guess you are right. If more people opt for voice search it will become indispensable to be at the very top of search results. If people are looking for an easy way out instead of typing it is going to be more critical to rank highly, and apart from that there is also the need to make sure a domain name is really clear so that Siri for instance, understands it easily. All this is quite interesting and yet very challenging.

i can agree it is way easier to voice control off your phone then it is too actually take the time to type every thing you want to say out in an actual search bar, as funny as it sounds i use the feature the most when i can not speak , like when i am drunk or something , i can say for the most part it does not effect me to type things out at all , matter of fact i feel like i have more control when i take that time too type things all the way out. guess it is based on the person

Or maybe you have a funny accent and the search goes all funny. I've been told my accent is funny hahaha.

On the contrary with your speculation that users will veer towards voice search, I don’t think it will get that popular because I have tried it myself. To be honest, I was really amused and I was using the voice command of my phone not only for searching but also for posting comments. But after 2 weeks I realized that there is the issue of accuracy that it is far easier to type what you want instead of saying it. Since then I have not used the voice command again.

in my opinion i can say voice search does has it advantages i can not go in to knocking it but type search will always be the default there are some things that your mobile will not pick up when voice searching you know and there is nothing you can do about that honestly you know im pretty sure you have dealt with the issues the same i have you say something and it types out some thing completely different and when you loo back at your phone you can not even recgonize your sentace and that is not good, so in my opiniom type search will always win

I personally prefer typing when searching for something. I used Siri just for fun. It seems that she does not understand whatever I ask, or most of what I ask anyway. So even though it takes a bit longer to type in whatever you are searching, at the end of the day it could be quicker than using voice search as you may have to repeat over and over again until it comprehends you, and that could take a while.

Yeah it's true voice search is becoming popular these days, but i don't think that will take over or will be more preferable than typed search, personally i prefer typed search because i can find anything i want and more faster than voice searching. I've tried to search via voice and i think it works good, but sometimes words are not recognized correctly and results are terrible with what i wanted.

Well, the statistics for the following years indicates just that. Don't forget a couple of years ago everybody was pretty skeptical about the portion of traffic the mobile will handle.

Voice search will take over typed search at some point but the cool thing is that typed searches will also increase. So both trends will develop further.

But the problem still remains, instant voice answers are a problem and we should develop complex content for typed searches and not for voice searches.

you know what you might just be on to something saying it could take over at one point , but to be honest with you i do not think it will be too soon , there are still way too many things that require you too type and trust me even people that have a habit of using the voice search feature people still type in searches also it is like second nature voice search is like a tool for when you need to be more hands free i dont think it was meant to be the main attraction if you catch my drift

that is the worst is it not , when you take the time out to make sure you say or ask your questions clearly and your device does not even recognize what you said then it is like let me try again and the very worst is when is happens multiple times then after a while you feel as if your repeating yourself it can be annoying , lol it happens to me time to time your right nothing is better then good old classic typing your words in it is faster more accurate regardless of voice searches popularity typing will always be go to.
