How much money would you invest in your website?

Let’s say you want to start your own business online in the same niche where your competitors are quite big and powerful, and the minimum investment to start is $1k , so in order to beat them or to compete with them you should go big. And , just wonder how much you are willing to invest on your website in such scenarios?

I guess it all depends on your current cash flow. If you're making 10k a month then investing 1k into a new project isn't a big deal. But not many of us are making 10k and can't invest that much.

Before I even start a website or online company, I always do my keyword research and figure out how much it would cost to put me on the front page for certain keywords through adwords and yahoo/bing advertising. If it is a reasonable price per click on average, I'll go for it. If the pricing seems to high but I still want to crack into the niche, I'll set up a website and begin to do my on page optimization as well as my off page optimization to get it ranked and pull in traffic and sales.

Normally with my websites now I'll invest around $300 to $500 at the start and see what happens. Now I won't just go out and bid $1.00 on my keywords in adwords because that will just burn my investment. I'll start slow at like $10 a day with 10 different ads and I'll filter out the low performing ads over a week or two. Once I'm getting a steady stream of traffic to the new website and it's profiting, I'll do some SEO as well as go on BuySellAds to look around for some monthly banner ads to increase my traffic sources. Some ads on BuySellAds can give you 1,000,000 impressions for $50 a month while others will give you 10,000 for $50 lol. You just have to be picky about your ad placements when you start a new website.

i agree razzy you have to go with what your budget is , you do not want put in more then you are bringing in if you already have a steady cash flow and revenue stream then you should be able to make a budget and plan ahead for any investments you plan on making, it all comes down to the game plan by the end of the day , and i also agree you have to be smart about what you choose to invest in you have to always make sure that you investments are going to benefit you really,

I would not start a website in a big niche with just 1k as budget. If we are talking about heavy niches, you need a lot of cash to make it over.
But anyway, I don't have the money for such a risk and every investment is a risk you should calculate. Smaller niches are a different problem, but I never invested more than 350 bucks.
This is why I'm an SEO, I don't like investing and manage a business, I just offer a service and people that need it pay for it.

Well, no. If I had a lot of money, something like a couple million dollars, why would I still invest in things that eventually create stress? I would just spend that cash slowly, for the rest of my life, doing things I don't have the time to do right now, like reading, writing and traveling.

I don't understand people that win the lottery so much money that they are basically set for 10 lifetimes, and what do they do? They start investing money! And of course they'll start losing money because they're stupid and have no idea what they're doing, which leads to stress, why should you be stressed out?

I'm not a risks taker when it comes to my hard earned money. I only invest in something when I don't see any big risks and when I'm sure I can turn a profit around. Right now investing in websites its way to much of a risk for me because I don't have a clear formula that will lead to success and profit.

LOL YES!

You have such a good point. I have a big time goal. I not only want to make a lot of money but I also want to have the time available to spend it. What is the point in having loads of money and not being able to enjoy it?

I hate stress too... but maybe if I could pay someone else to have the stress and manage it all. And only invest money I could afford to lose without it stinging or being a risk...maybe maybe.

This is a good question. For me, it depends on the niche and the potential it has. There are lots of saturated niches that are dying and I definitely won’t invest into those. While, there are other saturated niches that still has potential today. I would go big if there is potential in the project. However, with these niches, you are probably better off in a partnership so if something goes wrong, you suffer a lower loss. Obviously that means, your potential profits decreases. I cannot tell you how much I would invest into a project because it depends on the project itself and the amount of money I have. I only invest into projects that I can afford which means even in the worst case scenario, I don’t lose more than a certain amount.

personally i am a man with patience , i like to play my cards right and really make sure my decisions dont set me back so with that being said if it comes too competition i plan on beating them long term, im willing to put down the right amount in order to get my business and money going along once i can figure out a proper balance sheet, i ca go on too really better budget my investments and i try to make sure that if i invest i do it in a way were i make my money back , i set smalls goals and follow through

Well that all depends how much money I have lying around that I can invest into something doesn't it? And how much staff too because I just don't have a spare minute of my time right now to invest in any new projects.

If I had limitless money and good staff that I can trust then I the sky would be the limit. I would start loads of new projects!

I make enough money to live comfortably from day to day but I don't have extra money to invest in a new venture I also have no time to invest....

i feel it depends on how much money i have going for me at the time i cant invest some thing that i do not have or will not have you know but i am always in to investing , and investments really catch my eye when i have the opportunity to make my money back no problem i dont know i have a thing about empty investments im not the type that can invest off of faith i have to be able to know some kind of results are going to benefit me in the long rung with that being said i really do pick and choose

Hi procoder thanks for your question. Is it common sense that, investment depend on plan. What plan are you going to impose for your business basis on website? For example: if you taking plan for SEO, investment may different rather than planning on adword advertising. For me I can do all SEO works by myself without investment by other. But, who do not know SEO , he must to spend such amount of money which I safe for SEO work. So, investment should different basis on business plan and work plan. And I think you are going to invest short or big, when you see earning of money from such sectors. Like if you earn $1K each month, you can invent $200 at least for grow more business.
I do not plan to invest as whole website basis. Rather I allocate investment individual task by task basis.?

Big invest does not necessarily mean that your business will outwit your competitors. You of course need investment, however, there are other things involved. First of all you should look at the market. Is the market already saturated with the products you are going to launch, ot is ther a scarcity. Can you provide your products for less than what your competitor is charging. Do you have any creative idea to penetrate the market?
You should consider varuous things not just how much to invest.

Without investing, the potential to earn from your site will be negligible. Apart from domain registration and subscribing to hosting, you also need to put money in designing your site. Your site needs to have a unique design. Nobody wants to visit a site that is a lookalike of popular sites. Secondly, you need to invest in content development. If you don't write, you need a content developer, even if you can write, you might have to hire someone to write because it might be difficult to you to update your website regularly.
You also need to invest in marketing.

I don’t think I can afford more than $1,000 for a website since I am not wealthy and willing to be that adventurous. I know of some investors who put in more than double of that amount for a website that they plan to earn their livelihood from. Some local websites here earn good particularly the blogs and some forums. But when it comes to investing money, I have failed twice already in putting up a business so I have come to terms that I am not lucky in business. And when I will have my own website, it will be a blog and a free one like Blogger.
