Should freelancers use gaming or standard keyboards?

As a freelancer, you will probably need to do a lot of typing on a daily basis. Therefore, having a good keyboard is crucial. What keyboard do you have? Do you think it is worth investing into a good keyboard?

I personally have a standard HP keyboard and it is okay but I plan on buying a better one. I type a lot every day and a good keyboard will increase my productivity so I think it is worth the investment. Some keyboards are very stiff and I don’t like those ones so I am very picky when it comes to keyboards.

Has anyone got any experienced with gaming keyboards? Are they good for freelancers to use?

Same as any other business need good equipment to work and provide customers with quality service, freelancers obviously need good computer, keyboard, mouse and internet connection to work comfortably, fast and as easy as possible. I never tried gaming keyboards actually but nice ergonomic keyboard is nice to have for any freelancer.

Gaming keyboards are typically designed to improve the reaction time of a user. You mention that some keyboards are very stiff, however I tend believe gaming keyboards are not only 'stiff' but also bulky. I like small, slim keyboards with small keys, and if possible have the letters and/or characters light up with some sort of LED light so I can see them in the dark. I would not personally use a gaming keyboard for freelance work, but a more improved keyboard.

As of right now I'm using a basic Dell keyboard from a "All-in-one" computer bundle. It serves my needs at this time, however the keys are much more bigger than what I am used to.

I haven't made up my mind regarding keyboards yet. I do feel it's for the best if you're using some sort of gaming keyboard as those are also often ergonomic. But you could and probably should use whatever keyboard you find useful and a keyboard that feels good when you're using it.

Here's the one I'm using right now:

W,A,S,D are obviously marked in red cause it's a gaming keyboard. I've never understood why to be totally honest.. but well.. yeah. There it is. I like it a lot! Should freelancers use gaming or standard keyboards?

Interesting question. Yes the keyboard is an essential tool for us. I type a lot every day but since I prefer to use a laptop I do not give much importance to the keyboard. As long as you get used to it I guess it should not matter that much. If I were to have a desktop computer to work on instead of a laptop I would not bother investing in a gaming keyboard though as I prefer a standard one with no additional features or lights. The less fussy it is the better for me! Besides gaming keyboards tend to be much more costly than normal keyboards.

Unless your a freelance game developer or game tester then having a standard keyboard is the norm. If your a writer, why would you need a gaming keyboard in the first place? It really depends on the freelancers keyboard preferences.
