What are your thoughts about Cyber Security?

Tell us what do you think of when you hear 'Cyber Security'. Do you think of some geeks sitting in a basement on their machines? Something shady and underground? Or perhaps a process created to protect global networks, computers and overall information?

We spend our time in unsafe and highly vulnerable environment without thinking that we might be exposed to all kinds of threats. I think that everyone should be educated to protect himself against such threats and attacks. What actions do you take in order to protect yourself?

No one ever thinks they will be hacked or have money stolen from an online account. But it's so common place now, getting hacked and it can really happen to anyone. No one is immune. No one is exempt from cyber threats. As you said, 'unsafe', that's the nature of the online world.

I try to keep my passwords updated of course. And, I scan my computer for malware and viruses. I don't download files or click on links from suspicious sources. Though I'm sure that's not the only way to get a computer infected.

However, I would love more suggestions as to what I can do to better protect myself from hacking, especially now that I'm using wifi. I am concerned that someone could leech my wifi signal or download stuff using my wifi that I was held accountable for.

Exactly, everyone thinks that he won't be the target. But actually, those people get targeted the most.

Well, as far as I read you're pretty cautious when it comes to surfing and downloading. If you think that your network might be compromised, you should definitely limit the connections via your router and keep both, wifi and router password frequently updated. You should know that it is extremely easy to sniff the sensitive information once connected to someones wifi. You should also be careful with cookies as they are vulnerable and might give the attacker access to your all accounts ( Browser Cookies ). Disabling the automatic cookies may increase your online safety.

If you need assistance with this, let me know.

Cyber security is the security not only of my computer but including my emails and other online accounts like Paypal. Hacking, phishing and other crimes in the internet can happen to you that's why it is paramount to be aware of cyber security. It's just sad that people are using technology for their evil intentions. Take the case of the virus, isn't it great if there are no virus? Isn't it wonderful if there are not hackers? But that's the reality of life, it's always a mix of good and bad. With cyber security, what we can do is just to be aware.

I think that no one needs my data, and all information about information leaks is nothing more than an excuse for companies to sell their software and new technologies.

Why are you so sure of this? It seems to me that it is really important for a business that all data be confidential, because it can be important information about the company or customer data that definitely cannot be disclosed, especially if you work at office365. I advise you to check office 365 data protection. This is a good and modern solution for data protection.
