How do you prevent cyber squatting of your domain name?

Cyber squatting can happen when a competitor takes your company's name and uses it on another TLD extension. This happened with Dish Network, where a competing affiliate site used their name just on a different TLD extension. With more new TLD coming out everyday (such as .co, .xyz, etc), it's easy to get your domain name stolen by a competitor or competing site. How can you prevent someone from stealing your domain name and cyber squatting on it?

If you own the trademark to the name being used in the domain name, you can file legal action to prevent the person from using it in the domain. You should notify the domain name registrar directly that they are in violation of your copyright or trademark name and indicate you will bring legal action unless they suspend/delete the domain name.
