Facebook announces Fan Page likes count drops coming

Those of you who woke up this morning and checked your Facebook insights for their Facebook page saw an interesting message that doesn't bode well for like counts. The message informs Facebook page admins that on March 12th they may see a reduction in the number of likes they currently have on their page.

"We’ve recently updated the way we measure how many people like your Page. Pages may see a decrease in likes after March 12, when we removed likes from inactive Facebook accounts."

Inactive likes are not useful at all, so Facebook took a correct decision.

That's it.inactive likes just inflate the list of likers without adding any value to the Facebook page or Facebook itself. So it a wise moves by Facebook

Well if the people are inactive on the site, I don't see what the problem is with taking them away. I mean it isn't like they are doing something good on the site. They are simply artificially inflating the site count from what I see, so it is probably not the best thing in terms of getting the turnout you need.

Now the cat is out of the bag that Facebook is checking the likes of posts in Facebook. I think that is a good development because I have come across discussions about selling likes for your Facebook fan page. To get 10,000 likes is obviously fake likes. Now buyers of those fake likes will suffer the consequences of the likes being removed when they come from stagnant accounts. I clap my hands for that move by Facebook.
