Why do I have to login to Facebook to view a Page?

Does Facebook have it set so that you have to login to the Facebook site to view all Pages (not talking about timelines, just fan pages)? I've recently noticed many of the pages I try to visit from Reddit or other bookmark sites require a Facebook login first. Wouldn't it make more sense to allow people to view these pages (but not post or comment) without being logged in? At least, they could see the ads on site that way.

I think it depends on the page and the settings they have. For example, you should be able to see the SEOClerks fan page without logging in (just tested on an unlogged browser): https://www.facebook.com/SeoClerks

As Jordan said it depends on the privacy settings of that page.

Yes I agree that it depends on what the privacy setting is. There are some that will not let you see it unless you are their friend.

As an example I have my personal page set to private. I only want my friends seeing what I post and the comments that I make.

Not all pages are like this. If your page is set to private, then you will only want your friends to see it. Which is very understandable, so this is why you have to login to see those pages.
