Stalking can happen to anyone, especially on a site like Facebook. What steps can you take to be safe on Facebook or other social networking site?

Don't share full details of your personal life such as address/city. If someone fixates on you, they might develop a grudge and take the stalking off Facebook into real life.

Make sure you visit your privacy settings and make sure everything is set for your family or friends to see only. But it is never fully preventable.

Have your settings set to private and only share with those that are your friends on the site.

This is the reason I am always careful of the things I post on Facebook even posting my real birthday age is hard. I don't know who is who on the internet, so I have to be careful of everything I do on the site.

Stalking in social media is becoming popular that I think stalkers have nothing better to do with their life and that their angst and hangup are excessive. My advice when you have a stalker is to block the account of the said stalker so he cannot see your timeline anymore no he can message you. And when he creates another account, block him again even if that results in a cycle of block-and-create-account. At least you have a weapon.
