How to get your site recognized as an authority?

I've read online how Google prefers to give search engine ranking to authority sites. But, what is an authority site (such as what type of site would qualify) and how can you get your site recognized as an authority?

Give your readers the best information you can on a variety of subjects within your niche. Dig beneath the surface to uncover any areas that have not been covered on other blogs. This is what was done on Wikipedia. Each page is very comprehensive and in depth, not just surface.

I heard Ezine is the best way to build build page authority and right now I'm selling articles for very cheap. Ezine has a PR ranking of 7 by Google so getting a link from there would definitely get a website pushed up. I'm also selling these publication packaged with other online marketing gigs to improve your SEO. Does that sound like something you'd be interested in? I don't really know people but getting a article published on Ezine has worked wonders for me and if you would like to see some real SEO results then check out my gig. Let's get some link juice flowing your way.

My understanding of an authority is someone or something that publishes good articles on subjects with factual information that are shared. For example if you are a blogger and most of your blogs are factual then you can be considered an authority in that subject. For your site to be recognized as such I think you need to get a good amount of traffic because an authority earns that level by the traffic it gets.
