    Both types of links serve a purpose and should be used. Don't think about whether or not a link is do follow or no follow when you obtain it as that can lead to what looks like an unnatural backlinking pattern, as most sites have a mix of both.

    Do follow is the link that a hyper link in which Bing, Google, yahoo and other search engine bots follows through the link. And a link that does not allows search engines bots to follow through are no follow links.

    Nofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of the HTML to instruct the search engines that hyperlink should not link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. This helps in reducing the effectiveness of some search engine spam, thereby improving quality of the search engine results.

    Dofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of the HTML to instruct the search engines that hyperlinks can link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. In short if the webmasters give us a backlink with “dofollow” in the rel attribute, then we get some share of their PageRank and Google would consider the link and our site ranking improves. Similarly if the rel attribute of the HTML is tagged as “nofollow” then it will not be considered by Google and it would impact our website ranking.

    No follow

    No follow is introduced by Google to discourage spam in the comment. It is basically launched to provide more value in a related topic where unnecessary/irrelevant/not valuable what we called as spam to be detected and deleted. No follow is mainly a value to instruct some engines that the hyperlink would not influence the ranking in the search engines index.


    Do Follow

    Google spiders when crawling a website they search for external link points that are used in the site. If this link is fulfilling the do follow criteria,then search engines will follow the link and so link juice is passed.

    We can use do follow in the following areas

    · Refer to site having related content.

    · High quality websites (like Google blog)

    · Link to the original source (in case you have referred content)

    Nofollow links attributes do not allow search engine bots to follow link.That means if the website owner is linking back to you with nofollow attributes, it does not pass on link juice.

    Example of Nofollow Link:

    <a href=”http://www.google.com/” rel=”nofollow”>Google</a>

    Dofollow links allow google (all search engines) to follow them and reach our website. Giving us link juice and a backlink.

    Robots Meta Tag : <meta name=”robots” content=”nofollow” />
    This tells bots/crawlers/spiders not to follow links on the full page.

    Link Attribute : <a href=”http://www.google.com” rel=”nofollow”>
    This tells search engines not to count the link in terms of ranking pages.

    Tip: Try to keep noindex attribute for pages like contact and nofollow attribute for affiliate links on your blog posts. If you are linking to any spam website for any reason, use the nofollow link attribute.

    Do follow Back links is the most powerful way to influence search engines to redirect a lot of traffic to your site. Search engine crawlers crawl the whole content on your webpage including images, links, keywords etc.

    No follow links can be relevant to your post’s context and can come from the sources which have a potential to generate high referral traffic.

    No follow link is a link that does not count as a point in the page’s favor, does not boost Page Rank, and doesn’t help a page’s placement in the SERPs. No follow links get no love. Theirs is a sad and lonely life.

    It looks like my being confused with the issue of no-follow and do-follow is lesser now although the subject is not still clear to me. Maybe do-follow is the usual link which has no restrictions whatsoever and the no-follow is a link that has no effect on the ranking in the search engine. Am I correct in my understanding of the no-follow and do-follow? Pardon me if I sound so ignorant but I just want to clarify.
