Like blogs or news sites.

And, do these sites have a local (city/state/country) angle? If so, then a local site could possibly help.

Maybe if it's a blog for local events and such. Or local news.

I've only seen the American version of CitySearch, though maybe it's available for other countries.

It's really cool if you have a business in the US as it's always easier to promote your local business online since most internet users are from the US.

We can't ignore micro blogging sites to get back links because I have good experience of it.
When I post new content in my site I always post URL link with little description in micro blogging sites.

Those are some great places, I personally didn't even think of any of those. I personally think for a local business the best place to advertise (not backlinks) is at light polls or at other business that are closely related.

Don't you have Baidu in China? From what i know it's a huge local search engine and you can get good results there as well. As for Google not working, can't you use any Proxy?

Some of these local sites depend heavily on local user reviews. So you'll want to provide the best local service possible and suggest to your customers to submit reviews on your behalf to those sites.

This is a very good option. Just be sure to provide accurate information on your business location/address and other pertinent details and strive for positive reviews and feedback from your customers. This will help establish your business credibility online.

I am surprised to know that there are the Google Local and Yahoo Local sites. Maybe that is the reason why there are discussions in this forum about local businesses using Google and Yahoo. It didn’t occur to me that those discussions with mention of Google and Yahoo were referring to the Google Local and Yahoo Local. I guess I have to check those sites so I will get a clearer understanding.
