I think a lot more people use Bing than Google would like.

Bing is owned by Microsoft, which has really deep pockets. And, they could spend years pouring money into Bing promotion and TV advertising to get new users and literally go head to head with Google to the bitter end. In some ways, Bing results look a lot like Google results except for the social integration (assuming you are signed in). So a Google user could easily get accustomed to using Bing if they would simply give the search engine a try.

From the point of view of wanting to better my website to get visitors from Bing as well as Google, should I adapt my SEO work in any way to get better results from Bing? How big is Bing compared to the lies of Google & Yahoo?

For sure, I'd focus on some things Bing considers important, such as reducing bounce rate.

At one time, I read on their Webmaster Guidelines how bounce back rate is SO important in determining whether or not the page being landed on from Bing search results (for that keyword) are actually relevant. (Google admits that bounce back rates do play some role in their search engine algorithm but they are very secretive as to how important Bounce back rates are to search engine ranking, but Bing freely admits it's a key factor in ranking).

Pages on a site which have high bounce back rate are usually downgraded in Bing search results and eventually removed if the bouncebacks continue.

If a Bing search engine user clicks on a link in Bing search and quickly clicks back to search results, that means they didn't find relevant content.

So, if I were optimizing for Bing, I would simply try to ensure that each page on a site has the most valuable content possible related to any specific keyword being targeted and that content can be seen above the fold instantly by the user. Would not even hurt to provide a capsule summary at the top of the page, highlighting what is being covered on the page.

I think this could reduce bounce back rates and might help pages rank higher in Bing search.

Of course, it might be possible to accidentally rank for a particular keyword on Bing (same as can happen with Google), if it happens to be mentioned too often on that page. That could be a possibility such as on a forum, where people go way off topic and get onto tangents.

So when someone searches on Yahoo, it is really Bing that is finding the websites?

Google wants you to think they are invulnerable to Bing's effects but over time, Bing could replace them. Think of how popular Yahoo search was (back when they actually provided their own search results) and Google was a big nobody.

I agree that more people are using Bing now and google most likely does not like it. They are better than when they were first established by far but still not up to par I do not think with google or yahoo even.

I think that Bing is getting bigger and bigger. It seems to be doing much better than what it was first doing when it came out.

I think that they are getting more recognition for being better than they once were. I feel like more and more are using Bing or at least giving them a chance. They will continue to grow in 2014 and beyond I am sure.

In terms of Alexa ranking, Google is number 1, Yahoo is number 7 and Bing is number 42 as of the latest that I checked. But clearly, Bing is in the top 50 while Google and Yahoo are in the top 10. That is the ranking in terms of traffic and I guess the traffic is the element that you describe as big. Google has been in the number 1 position for a long time now that’s why it is the biggest internet company. By the way, Facebook is only number 3 because Youtube is number 2 which is also owned by Google.

It couldn't have been too big because Bing joined forces with YAHOO and even with that I would still rather use Google. It's not about how "big". It's about which one works best,
