Did your autoresponder company ever go out of business?

Once I purchased a 'lifetime' autoresponder for $70 and within six months, the site owner shut down and went out of business. It was a really good autoresponder too, just one day we couldn't login and taht was the end of it. Since then, I only pay by month or use a script for autoresponder that I have installed on my own site for email delivery.

Did you lose the contacts you had build up on their service?
Mine are installed on my websites so that they don't rely on a third party service staying open.

Using the built in autoresponder or site newsletter provided by your host company is a much better option as there is less risk you will lose your subscriber list.

You have other options for list building including just using a Facebook group or a Google + group. This won't cost you anything, unlike traditional autoresponder hosting.
