Do you feel as if blogging has changed now to become more commercialized? Do you miss how it was before when blogging was all about personal interest and passions rather than marketing? What is your view about new vs old style blogging?
Blogging is more tough now, i think due to continuous algorithm updates from Google (Panda, Penguin and hummingbird) many of good blogs also affected! In past there is no such things like algorithms, Blogger.com platform is far behind from WordPress(because wordpress is well optimized)

It can still be about passion though. There are many that still do it for this reason.
I don't think it is wrong when people want to make money from their passion. Bloggers create great content, they spend a lot of time in creating content, what's wrong when they want to monetize their content. Bloggers do not ask readers to click the ads or buy the products from the featured ads, when people click ads or buy products they do it voluntarily. The blogger needs money to maintain and operate the site, therefore, there is nothing wrong with commercialized blogging. The main thing that matters is whether the content is useful or not.
Almost everything around us now is turning into how you use them to make money. I have the passion to write and I feel good when I write about things and still make money out of it. So, it is no big deal for me at the moment.
When I started blogging, there was no Adsense yet although Adsense emerged after a few months. At that time, I didn’t know what Adsense means and since I was just a guest blogger so I didn’t take stock of it. Compared to the blogging of the olden days, the blogs now are almost the same. What I find different is the design of the blogs and the images that are included which is now common where before there were no pictures, just plain text. Also, there are many ads in blogs now although I understand the purpose of the ads.
