Have you tried crowd funding for your forum?

Crowd funding is an ideal way to pay for hosting expenses and acquisition of new forum software. You would simply sign up to any popular crowd funding site and create a convincing description which tells others why they should support your forum with funds. The crowd funding process is similar to taking donations, except not dependent on those who are current members of your site.

You can ask for money at an online site, that doesn't mean you will get it. Maybe if you told your friends and family about the fundraiser, they would show up to support you.

If your members really care about your forum, they will usually donate money to help pay hosting or fund the site in some other way. A crowd funding page might help further this goal.

Running a forum doesn't take much money. But, it would be nice to earn a profit. For that, you need advertisers and supporters. So maybe this is just another way to get the money you want.
