    Getting random private messages

    On some forums where I'm active, I get random private messages. Some are just spam with links, others are just invasive and personal. Do you ever encounter these situations on forums? Also as an admin or forum owner how do you handle the situation of members who send inappropriate or spam messages?

    Yes I have dealt with these before. I usually just tend to ignore them as much as I can.

    If they are asking personal questions, then report it to the site admin as those can be dangerous.

    Sometimes people will try to make a friendship connection with you to take advantage or entice you off the forum to another place such as Facebook. Following a stranger off a forum is about as dangerous as getting into a stranger's car. You just don't know where you will end up.

    Is there no way to block these people from messaging you again on that specific forum? It sounds like harassment more than anything.

    I usually give them the usual warnings, then if ignored I ban them.

    From time to time, I receive a variety of messages from several forums. The most notable are 3 messages inviting me to be a moderator of their forum. Some others are inviting me to register in their forum. I also get personal messages but I never reply. Short messages like asking where I am from or if I am married, obviously it's a hint to connect with me. My forum life is on a professional level, no personal connection.
