    Alternatives to necroposting

    Do you prefer necro posting or bringing up an old post for new responses? Or, do you just want to start a new discussion?

    A necro post is not the worst thing. I like starting new discussions actually as it gives all new members a chance to post something.

    Some discussions are dozens of pages long and it takes forever to get to the end. I would much prefer to lock a discussion after five pages and just start another one on the same theme. That way people don't have to sort through all those posts to catch up.

    I agree that it’s difficult to navigate an old thread with a hundred posts. Maybe that’s one reason why some admin prefer a new similar thread instead of reviving an old one. But for me, I would rather stick with the old thread and let it grow. I know of a forum where the thread has hundreds of pages already but it’s doing okay and still growing. The problem with creating a similar thread is that the members can get confused. Which is which if there are several similar threads?
