Why is my site ranking so low? Negative SEO or Really Lousy Site Content?

When a site owner cries foul that a competitor has aimed negative SEO at his site, is there merit to the claim or could low ranking be more related to lousy SEO practices such as thin/copied content; bad backlinks acquired by the site owner; linking to bad sites; paid links? Please watch the video and then let me know what you think.

You didn't know about Google's Disavow Tool anweb? It's been out for almost as long as Panda algorithm and was created around that time so that webmasters could load any backlinks into it to prevent Google from attributing those links to their site or literally "disavowing" them. It can be helpful in that sense, but those links will always still remain unless you go about doing a clean up process of those links to get them removed. A lot of people think that all you need to is upload your list of URLs to the Disavow Tool and that's it. But you still need to remove those links somehow as quickly as you can. That means either embarking on the process yourself or employing someone to do it for you. After you've removed the links, you can go about removing them from the Disavow Tool as well. Also there is a limit on how many links you can add to the Disavow Tool. So if you have more bad backlinks than you're allowed to put into the Disavow Tool you wont be able to disavow them. So you simply have to go about getting those links removed in your cleanup campaign.

If a webmaster is saying that there are some bad backlinks pointing to their site then that could well and truly be the reason why that site is ranking low or worse, has been deindexed from the Search Engines. But it would all depend on the site itself, its on-page and off-page SEO score/rating and of course, what the competition is for the sites main targeted keywords. If the competition is very high then there will be sites that are doing their own SEO and probably have much better content and lots of it and they might be more older sites too so there's quite a lot of things to take into consideration and think about as to why that site is ranking low. Or lower than other sites in the same niche.

And if that was the case the website has indeed received a ton of iffy, questionable, low quality backlinks pointing to their site, they'd have to go about collecting a list of them all using some tool or website that can do it and then working out which ones are the good from the bad. It could be that some of them aren't bad links and are good links and you inadvertently add them into the Disavow Tool. So it really helps if you know what is a good and what's a bad link and which ones are worth having or not before you collate your list and add them to the DT. If you're not sure, you might want to hire a professional to do that for you, someone that is knowledgable in that are will know so that you don't accidently disavow your good links too. It can be a complicated process and frustrating time if it happens to you but it's not the end of the world if it does and there are steps that you can take to counteract it such as using the Disavow Tool and of course applying some new high quality links to your site as well. The trick is to add only the best high quality links you can continually overtime (not too many too soon) so that all the good links you have pale the bad links into insignificance or you just disavow them anyway. Hope this helps! Why is my site ranking so low? Negative SEO or Really Lousy Site Content?

Negative SEO is not just backlinks , sadly!. Just with a bot to click on competitor's sites and performing a DDOS attack to slow down the server response time can also bring the ranking down. And it can effect you whole trustrank of your website.

From what I have read about the negative SEO such as submitting the link of a competitor’s website to Google to be disallowed, it is not a simple submission to have a negative effect. Google does an evaluation and probably it is looking for a valid reason for that. Just like blocking an IP address from a forum, it has to have good reason why you are blocking the said IP address otherwise the website owner will disagree since a visitor gives traffic. I guess that’s the same with Google.
