Where to find trustworthy php help?

I need some help with my php-based website, but what's to stop someone from either sabotaging it (not too worried as I have backups) or, more importantly, stealing the code and launching an identical site? My website is very valuable and I'm nervous to give anyone access to the code that I don't know and trust already.

You should hire someone from local market by posting a free ad on your local websites, or you can hire some professionals from websites like seoclerks.

I think codeclerks has some of the good PHP workers. You can also try Fiverr if you want. There are some good coders on both of thee sites. if you have some good budget then you can go for the upwork and the freelancer website. That way you can see how that works out for you.

Apart from that you can give out ads in the craiglist and see if that brings more coders for you. Most of the users these days get to see such ads and that does help bring more clients on the way. I guess one can look for the coders in most of the programming marketplace sites.

No matter who you're getting to do the work for you, I would have to advise that you have a sort of agreement in place. Also, ensure you hire the professional on a site that gives both the buyer and the seller some kind of protection during the execution of the work.

Yes agreement and the milestone system definitely helps. People get to understand how to be more trustworthy with the type of the programmer. And as they can trust you too. So have escrow system in place. And also learn how to get them to work on the legal terms. That should be the way people need to manage as well.
