    Good backlinks are non spam links on high PR domains. Having 1,000,000 spammed blog comment links are very low quality and will probably only give you a negative affect.

    You should always even out your links and don't get to impatient. Spending more time and more money will always get you further.

    Pardon me for asking this but I want to know in specific terms about that negative effect that you mentioned. What if I have a thousand links on one site which constitutes spamming in the clearer sense of the word, right? So what happens to my site, what negative effect will my site experience from posting 1,000 backlinks on an obscure site? What will Google get if they sanction my site?

    The best links you can get are high PR links from a niche related site. It is always best to go for a wide diversity of quality links.

    My understanding of quality backlinks is the link of your website that you place in popular websites. For example you have posted a comment on a very popular blog then that means your signature which contains the link of your website can be seen by the readers of that blog and has the probability of being clicked and thereby your site will be visited. Search engines can see that probability and will take it into consideration.
