Basically, SEO is the process of letting search engines like Google know what your site is about and how popular/in-demand your content is. The more popular or in-demand you are for a specific keyword, the higher you will show up in the search results which in turn means more traffic for your site. Needless to say it's a vicious circle.

In simple words, SEO is search engine optimization, which refers to the process of tweaking your articles so that it is visible on search engine. There are two ways to do that, one is on page optimization and another is off page optimization. On page optimization is when you add keywords to your contents, including the title, description, and the content body, you also use your keywords on the site title, site description and image title and image
Off page optimization is you build backlinks to your website, submit your websites to directories and such thing.
