The power of handing out a well designed business card

In a digital world, business cards get looked over, but they can still be a very powerful thing to have on you at all times.  You never know when you're going to have a conversation with someone and their interest peaks because of what you're saying, then they ask "Do you have a card I can hold on to?" and if you don't, you likely just lost a customer because they won't remember the important details like your website URL and sometimes your name.  If you would have just taken the time to get some business cards printed up, you would have turned that friendly conversation with a stranger into a profitable time investment The power of handing out a well designed business card

Business cards aren't tricky at all, you just have to get your basic information on there like your name, email, business name, address (if you have one) and a phone number.  You're handing out a small little card that has multiple options of contacting you if someone wants, that's all it is, and it shouldn't be seen as a daunting task when you want to get one designed and printed.

There are plenty of companies that revolve around printing promotional material like this for people, and a good one that I use frequently is VistaPrint because they have a lot of great deals for a massive amount of business cards.  If you want to really stand out, I highly suggest you should look into something like plasticprinters.com because they have a unique approach to business cards such as plastic cards, metal cards, die-cut cards, cards that look like credit cards, and various other options The power of handing out a well designed business card  If you hand out one of these to a potential client, they're sure to remember you because of how unique your business card it!

In this discussion I'll be going over the power of a well designed business card, so lets get started!

You will be seen as an authority
A good business card goes a long way, especially if it's designed well, because people will begin to see you as an authority.  You will stand out from the crowd of business cards and people will see yours if before your competitors if they recieved a bunch at one time.  People are use to getting the basic business card with your name, email, and phone number on it, which basically says "I printed these up and I have no imagination at all".

If your business card seems to have taken time to design and is higher quality than most of the people around you, you'll be seen as more of an authority even though it's just a little card with some information on it The power of handing out a well designed business card

A good design sets you apart from pre-made ones
There are thousands of pre-made designs out there, and they're pretty easy to pick out of a crowd.  Usually they have basic stock images on them and your contact information is always in the same spot, BORING!  Take your time and work on your own design or have someone do it for you.  There are plenty of amazing designers here that can knock out a mezmerizing design in a few hours, and they'll likely charge you a few bucks for something that could increase your sales exponentially The power of handing out a well designed business card

When someone hands me a business card that has their information on it but the design is all white with a slight blue line around the boarder, I think they work for the government or own a funeral home.  I don't wnat to be handed a card by either of those types of people, so you should probably go over your design and spend a few bucks on one that will set you apart from the CIA and a funeral parlor lol.

More professional than giving someone your email
There have actually been commercials where people give out their emails and the client thinks "Is this for real?".  Professionals don't give out johndoefixer@gmail.com on a piece of paper, they give out great looking business cards because they are running, or working, for a business.  Sure, your email will likely be on the card, but that's just one of the many ways someone can contact you if they really wanted.

If you're just starting out and you don't know if you should get business cards, GET BUSINESS CARDS!  They will be a small investment that are easily covered after the first job you land.  Think about it, if you were to go to an event and hand out 500 high quality business cards, you'll stand out in a sea of boring cards that were printed up for the same reason.  You'll more than likely land a few leads and that will be more than enough to cover the initial investment the cards took to get made.  If you were handing out your email to everyone you talked to, you likely wouldn't get a single phone call the next day lol.

Increase your chances of landing bigger sales
A good looking business card that is done properly is going to catch you a bigger fish all of the time.  Sure, you may throw 499 cards at small fish and hope they work with you, but that 1 card out of the 500 could actually be a monster sized whale and want to work with you solely on how you designed your card.  They will see that you took your time to wok on the design and choose out the paper, or plastic, the card is printed on and they will think "If they were this dedicated to designing a great looking business card, I'm sure they will be dedicated when working with me".

Business owners who run multi-million dollar corporations are use to handing out business cards and receiving them as well.  I'm sure that 99% of the time they get a card it goes in their pocket and then in the first trash can they pass by throughout the day.  If you have a card that stands out, you will likely peak their interest and they might put your card in their wallet.

*** Quick Tip ***
If you see a business owner put your card in their wallet, they are likely going to look it over a second time because you peaked their interest.  If they just hold onto it throughout your conversation and then you part ways, it's likely going in the garbage can.

So, increase your chances of getting your business card in the wallet of a whale by having a card that stands out and actually impresses them when they see it The power of handing out a well designed business card

In Conclusion
A business card is like a website, you should take your time designing it and be sure that it is eye catching as well as professional at the same time.  You usually have something on your website that sets you apart from your competition, so carry that idea over to your business cards and stand out!  Business cards are more than just a little bit of information about yourself and how to contact you, they are little images of how you want to be seen.  If you have a high quality business card that stands out from the crowd, you will almost always win over someone who has a bland card.  It doesn't matter about your reviews online because most of the time the person who is receiving the card won't get that far if it's an ugly design lol.  So, go out there and check out vistaprint and plasticprinters.com if you're in the market for a new business card that you want to stand out from the crowd The power of handing out a well designed business card

I remember recently when I was making a pitch and someone asked for my card I was so embarrassed since I did not have one on me. From that day I have learnt the true value of having some around always because I did not make any inroads with the investors.

Yeah, it's always wise to have an extra on your wallet. There are times that clients just come randomly out of no where and like any soldier you just have to be ready. When it comes to business, everything and everywhere is possible.

This exact thing has happened to me, too! It's a really disheartening feeling too, because after you tell them "no", you know you just took a huge hit the potential of gaining them as a client. A real bummer for sure, but it's kept me on my toes every time I go out to work a freelance gig.

In the olden days the business card which we called “calling card” because of the indicated phone number was not common. Only those in higher position like managers in the office have the calling card. But marketing people have that, of course, because it is their means of connecting to people particularly to potential clients. I guess we have to be aware that the business card is as important as your driver’s license when you go out.

A Business Card is a valuable tool for any business professional and sales and marketing personnel. It helps them to connect with potential clients and existing customers. It's been in use in different forms for more than a century and even though we are now in the hi-tech computer age, it's still being used today.

Yeah there's nothing like handing a business card to a potential clients. It goes along with first impression and professionalism. I still think it's valuable up to this date because along in handing your business card is a little talk that goes a long way.

So many of these rang true to me - if someone hands me something that looks the same as everyone else's, I generally assume their business is the same as everyone else's. There's zero "wow" factor at that point. A well designed business card grabs my interest and also makes me think that if they pay attention to detail for a business card, then they probably do to their business overall.

Yeah, it's like mass produced products. You will have everything similar and only the first one leaves a mark. Making an outstanding business card creates value to a potential customer specially if this costumer is a familiar with the business.

Yup - some of the most cool and interesting business cards I've seen have been ones where they've really thought outside the box, and that's ended up in me wanting to deal with their business! Surprising that a small piece of cardboard can have such wide reaching effects!

I have managed to print some of my own business card. And so far those cards seem to be working out. I usually give it out during the networking event. And also some of the time I try to send out for the party or so. You can see that business cards that have simple call numbers and email are effective. I try to avoid the fancy stuff. It does not seem to be making much value wasting on the card usually people don't have much value for same.

I agree that a business card is important. It introduces people to who you are. It represents your brand, that's why you have to be careful about how its designed. The design needs to represent your image/brand. I see people with plain business, cards poorly designed, on poor quality paper. This in my opinion is a complete no,no.Either have a well designed and presentable business card or don't have one at all. It wont cost you much. You can even design it yourself, online.

That’s true, and there are so many free design tools that you can access online these days! Most of them are quite user friendly and intuitive so it means that just about anyone can get into design!

I agree, your business card is somehow a view of your business and your personality. It's not actually the design but how the content is represented. The colors and format should be aligned with your business.

Totally true. My boss before always pay a professional to make his business card. I ask him about it and I told him I can make it myself. I thought I would make a card that is the same as everyone else. He won't even pay for it. He explained to me that business cards represents your brand and your professionalism. You have to make it your own, unique and interesting even if it's just your name on it. I admit that if someone gives me a plain business card I would discard without bothering to read it. On the other hand, I will keep a card that is well-designed on my nightstand in case I may have a need of its services.

A good design have a good power to bring huge traffic for a website. Some year ago I was popular on my capital and some senior friends of mine gave me the idea that you are huge popular now a day. So make a visiting card and use your online details on there. In this way people will visit your website and will use your online related service. I had liked that idea. At first I have used a basic design of card and secondly I have received huge traffic. Later a travel company brother who was close to me and use the same technique. These time I have been used minimum 4 color based visiting card and there have been used air ticket selling based website which got huge popularity and the senior brother was happy. I got proof that colorful visiting card will give you the facility for bringing traffic to your website.

Thanks

Business cards are such a necessary aspect of networking. I myself don’t own a business (yet) but I’d be so incredibly embarrassed if someone asked for my contact info and I’d have to right my email down on a napkin.

Given I have a background in graphic design, I’ve actually helped a few people redesign their business cards as a means of breaking away from stock templates. They said that the reception when handing out their information was vastly improved. The last thing you want is to give someone your business card and them to think “Huh, I’ve seen this design somewhere before.”

There's a proper way of handing out business cards, it must be done by using both hands directly facing the person you're giving it to, while saying a good line like "here's my business card, if ever you need my services, do call or message me 24/7"

Ooooh wow! This is quite new to me but what can I say. We learn every day don't we? I normally just dished out the cards to someone without any keen interest in the manner I do it. The improvement is essential nontheless. Thanks.

Yeah i have actually encountered a gesture like that from a Japanese Supplier that i met. He bowed while giving me the card in both hands. The gesture is actually really amazing because i found it respectful and professional.

Now that I can picture it I admit that it can make you hold the person giving you the card with high regards. You will take them more seriously than those who just hand out cards.

Business cards may sometimes been overlooked especially nowadays that everything is digital. It is indeed professional to say handing a business card to someone specifically in the business world, Considering your business card is your website since you are dealing personally and not online, it is advisable to make the most of it that can catch up the attention of your potential client for it's uniqueness.

'A good design sets you apart from pre-made ones,' this is true. Putting a personal touch on your business card can define you. Being creative can help but if we are not really good at designing then we can always hire someone to make the best design, unique yet professional and presentable.

'Increase your chances of landing bigger sales,' I strongly agree with this. Clients always have the thought of eyeing on small details or designs. If the person who handed a detailed, unique and well-made business card to a client, that person can basically stand out from the crowd. Clients are always looking for individuals who can make a difference to their companies.

A business card can make a huge difference and is definitely something that you want to have for your business. However, you can't just have any business card. You need to make sure that your business card is well designed, has the vital information that will give the customer everything they need to know on how to contact you and is memorable. If it has a poor design, then chances are that the customer will not even look at it twice.

Business cards do make you look more professional. Whether they are paper business cards or electronic business cards. I kind of like the magnetized business cards that I can put on my refrigerator door.

In the olden days, the business card was called “calling card” and it has a standard format with the contents which was largely text only. When the computers and fancy printers came about, there was a paradigm shift in the format of the business cards. Now it has a photo aside from the stylish fonts and colors. The look of a business card should be appealing and interesting otherwise it will just be ignored.

Having a well designed business card can help land more if not bigger sales because more cards given means more chances of getting a conversion. It also gives you a cut above the rest because people tend to choose the person who has the best looking business card.

Do people still give out business cards? In my experience, people interact online more rather than in person. Even when it comes to business, I've noticed people are more inclined with sending emails than meeting up in person. The "business card" in this case can come in the form of a website. Sort of like a resume almost.

Having a well designed business card can help you get more deals because oftentimes prospective clients would be more inclined to think that people who have good and well made business cards are successful, reliable and more professional than those who have plain looking ones.

Those tips you have given were really helpful! Truly business cards are important because somehow, it will become a bridge towards your success. That may sound skeptical but it really is because, as you said, when you have that opportunity that you met a person who is interested with your business, giving them a business card of yours is the greatest way for them to contact you and build a communication with then afterwards, we might not know but that may be your biggest break for your business.

Yes you are right. The good design you have, the more it attracts people or costumers so it is also important that a business card has its creative design for this will entice more people to get you what services you might be working. Yeah its true that its more professional if you have a card with you than just giving the email since all your information are all there at the card so it is more convenient and more decent.

By having a well-designed business card, you are giving a good impression to your potential client. Aside from the information that you have on the card, it is essential for your card to be pleasing or engaging. This can be helpful when you are promoting your company or business. The information and the design of your card should be the presentation of what your company is all about.

Business cards are a great asset to business people. They actually give you dignity.

It is just unfortunate if they fall into the wrong hands. They can soon act against the person using them.

Business card is a way of advertisement. You are promoting yourself and the product you are selling so the design is really important. It is also a way to contact you and letting the customer know that you are very accessible. The design can really be the symbolism of yourself and the company so it is really important that you catch the attention of the potential customer.

My dad has this all the time on his pocket, wallet, where ever he is, he always have this with him. Before I really don't know what are these for but my dad told me that everyday you meet different people. If you are starting to advertise something or to someone, no one will do such effort to right down your name, email address and contact number. So he said its better that you do that for them instead. So all we have to do is give them the card and wait once they are interested with your business. Now, I understand that now.
