Should you use a VPN or a VPS as a blogger?

Hey guys,

The difference between VPN and VPS is:

VPN: Virtual Private Network
VPS: Virtual Private Server

That being said, I was thinking about the actual use for something like this. And I know that the question might seem a bit odd for some people, as these two things are very different from each other, even though they have a similar name.

The reason I'm asking this, is because I want to know if you'll benefit from using a VPS or a VPN in any way at all, as a blogger?

I've heard different stories but I thought I'd ask you instead. It makes more sense.

Oh and btw. You can also read this topic from Procoder:

What I'm not figuring out is why you would need either in order to be a blogger?

I've always had VPS's for high powered software that could run non stop and not lag down my own computer. Basically a VPS is just a different computer that you remotely log in to and do what you want on it. People use them for software, having a random IP in a specific country, or doing shady things lol. What could you need a VPS for when it comes to blogging?

As for a VPN, I have a recurring subscription to HideMyAss (HMA) and I love it Should you use a VPN or a VPS as a blogger? I don't use it for blogging because there's not really a need. I mean I guess it would come in handy if I wanted to post something on a forum or blog and then switch my IP address in order to comment from a different account. I could comment multiple times from various IP addresses linked to different accounts and reply using my own IP address. This makes the blog post or forum thread seem more popular and it's also a tricky way of bumping something to the top of the results in a forum for marketing purposes lol Should you use a VPN or a VPS as a blogger?

If you own the blog then you don't have to worry about logging into various IP addresses and posting/commenting because you can simply approve everything since you know it's you Should you use a VPN or a VPS as a blogger?

For blogging I don't think you need either a VPN or a VPS, you just need a shared hosting account to start off and if that becomes to weak you could upgrade your plan with whatever hosting company you have. To be a great blogger you just need to focus on your writing and how to format it in a way that attracts users to click through and read more pages Should you use a VPN or a VPS as a blogger?

Thanks Should you use a VPN or a VPS as a blogger?

I don't know Razzy. That's why I had to ask. Should you use a VPN or a VPS as a blogger?

I've heard many different stories about this. Some people seems to claim that you should totally have a VPN as a blogger and others says the opposite. That you don't need one at all. And others are saying that a VPS is what you should aim for, as it would benefit you more as a blogger.

And I can't understand why you would need either of them. Not as a blogger at least.

But from what I've heard, it definitely seems like people are debating this, and both options seems to be beneficial for you as a bloggers, judging by the discussions I've read. - But I can't find a reason for it myself.. And thought I'd ask you instead! Should you use a VPN or a VPS as a blogger?

I am a blogger and I do not have VPN or VPS. It has never been recommended to me to have either one of them either.

I have considered getting a VPN since apparently I can then get Netflix and HBO from South Africa, but that was only when I was struggling to watch Season 6 of Game of Thrones LOL.

I wasn't even aware that there was a massive difference between the two terms. I have heard of them but I didn't know exactly what they were.

Not really no. There's not really need for either of them as a blogger. A VPS is just an Operating System like Windows that allows you to login to it and do all the things on it you can already do on your computer already. With the exception that it's not using your IP address. It can be useful for a lot of things like running SEO programs, traffic programs etc, but blogging isn't really one of them.

As for a VPN you might only need that if you was a large business. and needed to send large amounts of data across shared networks as though they were all connected together and using the same processing power. VPS's are useful in that way and if you want employees to access a corporate intranet while working outside of the office from a different location. It's basically just a way of connecting people together securely without sending sensitive data across the Internet. But again, it's not essential for a blogger to use a VPS to blog with. I guess it would have to depend what your blogging about. if you like anonymous who has the whole world looking for him or them for exploiting various secrets to the nations then you may need VPN or VPS. I don't think a normal blogger that talks about regular things needs a VPN or VPS but i could be wrong. The only application i can see for this type of software in a bloggers life is when a blogger is on the road and wants to update the blog they are working on. If you have to use public WIFI or hotel WIFI you can be at risk for some serious threats. In this case i think that you should use these types of software. If you do not want to use this you could also have a dedicated computer at home that stays on, and a laptop that goes on the road and then you could use Chrome Remote desktop to access your computer thats at home.

I don't see the need for a VPS, sure you may want to host your blog on a VPN but that's about it.
Most forums don't get any significant traffic to ever need a VPN, hell you can have a blog and make money and not pay for hosting.
There are so many free platforms out there you just need to start blogging and figure things out as you go.

I always recommend Blogger to anybody who asks be about starting a blog, that's how I started making my first money online.

Well, in my opinion, it depends on what you're blogging about. If you feel you're talking about sensitive information and may not want to be traced as easily as you could, a VPN/VPS might be necessary.

Like others have already said above, the idea of a VPN/VPS is to covert certain online activity by concealing and diverting your IP address. Either to bypass certain country restrictions, block the access of website cookies, or talk about possibly sensitive issues that you're not interested in being linked back to.

If you have reason to anonymously post your articles to your blog in a private manner. VPN's and VPS's are the way to go (though be warned of your reasons why).
