Bing Webmaster Tools - Does anyone use it?

When it comes to applied SEO one of the most important tools you need to check on a daily basis is Search Console, formally known as Google Webmaster Tools, but for years now Bing has its own version of Search Console called Bing Webmaster Tools.
Bing Webmaster Tools - Does anyone use it?
Has anyone here gone to the trouble of setting such an account? I would only do it when a website I'm administrating will get a lot of organic traffic from Bing, otherwise no, I don't really have any reason to implement it for my clients. Most of the rely on local organic traffic and very few people here (if any) use Bing as a search engine, everyone uses Google so the potential organic traffic one might get from Bing is very slim.

On the other hand, I also have some international based clients that may profit from some Bing traffic. Does setting up a Bing webmaster tools will get you better ranks in Bing?

Yeah, well, when I'm in the process of adding my site to Google WMT, I'll invariably often add it to Bing WMT too. As for "Does setting up a Bing webmaster tools will get you better ranks in Bing?" I would have to say categorically NO to that.

Bing doesn't rank sites by which ones are using WMT or not. There are literally millions of sites out there, and Bing doesn't keep track of those that are using Bing WMT or not. And Bing uses a similar ranking Algorithm that is similar to how Google's works (although not quite as nearly as comprehensive) and ranks a site based on its backlinks and probably its social count as well.

I've been using Bing WMT for years, and I've added many of my websites to it. Never once have I seen an increase in ranking in Bing for doing that. Bing WMT can help you get some insights into your site, where it's ranking and stuff like but it doesn't have any effect at all on your ranking in the BING SERP's.

So my answer is one that's based on over 10 years of real first hand experience. Besides, good Bing rankings usually only come when you have good Google rankings. Have you ever known a site to rank high in Bing for keywords, but not rank anywhere for those same keywords in Google? Not happening! lol Bing Webmaster Tools - Does anyone use it?

Thanks for your answer Mike! Glad someone here has extensive experience with Bing Webmaster Tools! I agree on everything you said, I always thought that MAYBE just MAYBE some websites can rank high on Bing for a certain keyword but not on Google, but as you said, from all my years of experience at looking on traffic charts, I never once seen a huge traffic from Bing for a certain keyword but not from Google.

That shows again SEO is universal, do it for Google and you'll have success on the other search engines.

Yep pretty much! I mean, it may help a tiny tiny amount on Bing, like 1 notch up or something for doing it. But Bing mostly pulls its results from Google anyway! That was back in 2011 around the same time that Google Claimed Bing was Copying its Search Results. It's all very he say / she say but people have been saying it for years well before 2011 that Bing and Yahoo were "mirroring" Google's SERPs. And yes it is completely a universal thing. Those other Search Engines do have their own algorithms and unique things about them that that make them what they are and still make them valuable assets. But do SEO for your site and that will usually increase your ranking in all search engines regardless.

Thanks for all this information Mike. That is what I did too. I added my websites to Bing Webmaster Tools and then just left it. I have never checked my rankings on Bing or any other search engine either.

It might be interesting for me to check out the insights though.... I am having a problem with Google Webmaster Tools, there is something wrong where it tells me I get no organic traffic to one of my websites when I most definitely do and then when I check Google Analytics I can see I have organic traffic but most of the search terms are hidden. Do you know what they do this?

I registered my websites on Bing Webmaster Tools and I have no idea how this affects my website SEO and my rankings. I have no idea but someone said I should do it and at that stage I didn't even know there was a Bing Webmaster Tools.

I just thought well if there are things that may help my websites SEO why not give it a go. I forgot all about that until now, I haven't even gone back and looked at it again to be honest. I don't even remember what my password or anything is LOL.

I do rank on Bing, I checked so that is enough for me. I just put all my focus onto Google because well there is a reason why people say "Google It" instead of search online. Never have I heard anyone say "just Bing it", right?

Lol yes, very true Lynne, this is why I didn't create Bing Webmaster tools accounts and wanted to see if anyone is using BWT on a daily basis like I use Google Search Console. So yeah, I got my answer, no point in setting up a BWT if I'm never going to check it again and as Mike says you don't get any direct benefits like better ranks in Bing.

I used Bing Webmaster Tools only because when I was setting up a site, it asked for a “verification”. That's the only time. It didn't work against my site. But it didn't work any organic magic for it either!

I am using Bing webmaster tool for my website but to be honest it is only used to submit sitemaps and see traffic of my websites on Bing search. I didn't have many things to do with Bing.
