What does Financial Freedom mean to you?

We all want financial freedom right? But it means different things to different people.

When I think of financial freedom the first thing that springs to mind is money, but when I dig a little deeper it actually has very little to do with money.

Of course money comes into it. Yes I want to buy food for my family. Yes I need a car, we need a home to live in… yes to all those basic needs.

But I want time really. I want the time to spend with my kids in the afternoons and in order to have that time I need to have made money so that I can afford to have that time off to spend it with my children.

I also look at some people that are what I would consider stinking rich, but never even take a minute off from work… so like when do you get to enjoy all those riches? What is the point?

If I am stinking rich I want the freedom to take time off to blow some of my hard earned cash!

I love this idea and topic discussion, What financial freedom means to me. Well first off i want to say that for me it has everything to do with the amount of money i have. If i had enough money to pay my bills for 1 year saved, plus enough money coming in to pay all my bills plus an extra 1000 a month i would be financially free. How? well to start off if i could make an extra thousand dollars a month i could hire someone to do most of the work i do now. This would allow me to spend more time to spend with my family and friends building relationships. I wouldn't have to worry about grocery shopping and if i have the money for that. I would not have to decide whether to go see my family in CT or buy shoes for my kids. Financial freedom to me is the ability to do anything i want and need and not have to worry about how its being paid for. Thanks Lynne i appreciate you for sharing this.

Jkeyz2 yes I agree with you, it is very much about being stress free isn't it?

I know I am not the only one that got stuck in the debt rut and it is very stressful having bills coming in faster than money does!

When kids come into the picture finances are even tighter and more worrying. I can manage not having a bite to eat for supper once in a while but the thought of not being able to feed my children? That is terrifying isn't it? Thankfully I have never been in this position but the worry of school fees, medical expenses and so on is always present.

I have changed my life so much since we lived in the ghetto. I use to have the mind state that if my kids didn't have anything to eat i would do anything to feed them. Even if this means losing my freedom or life to get the money they need to eat. I think about this everyday and i pray that god does not let it get to that point. My wife is a big support for me when i get stressed out, but even she does not know the extent of how bad things are sometimes. Financial freedom is something we have been working to achieve for the past 3 years and i think we are getting closer and closer to making it happen. Seoclerks has been a big help during this process helping me get my bills paid so i can do other things to get money.

I am so glad to hear it Jkeyz2. It sounds like you have truly had it tough in life but it also sounds like you are doing everything you can to change things.

That is for me amazing to know. It sounds like things are coming together nicely now. I hope you continue in the same way.

To me it would mean, being so well off that I do not have to worry about working. I only work if I want to, because there is enough for me to keep going, and to allow me to go into a shop and buy what I want or like without having to think twice. It is something that I can only imagine I guess because I can never imagine having that much money to be in that kind of position. However even though I do not have this kind of financial freedom, at least I can appreciate what I have and how to be reponsible.

I would rather ask what amount is enough?

By default we are gatherers, do we will constantly want more than we have. Look at all the rich people, they are constantly engaged and they are chasing opportunities everywhere. You would say that they have more that they can spend in 10 lives but they are still trying to get more.

I have my Financial Freedom now, I earn quite an amount from my job but I still do some freelancing, not because I don't have enough but because I want more.

Better food, better clothes, better car, better house, better everything.

Nicely said RaduV!

You have just highlighted that "I'll be happy when" mentality. So many people set goals and say they will be happy when they achieve that, but actually they aren't because as soon as they reach those goals they have more to take its place...

I have some goals that I am working very hard towards but I made very sure not to live in the "I'll be happy when" mentality otherwise I will be miserable for my whole life.

Live in the moment, enjoy every moment and be happy in this moment.

Financial freedom = not having to worry about the things I lack. Don't get me wrong, I don't need much to be satisfied, all I want is a decent house, a good car and everything in between. I'm working every day to achieve that goal.

Financial freedom also means for me not doing something I don't like, I know I will never stop earning money, not even if I'll become filthy rich, I will always work and produce an income, thing is, I don't want to worry about not reaching a certain number every month because I want to save enough to buy everything I'm missing at the moment.

Probably will reach that "blissful" place in a couple of years from now, but the moment, I need to work overtime to achieve my goals.

Yes brilliant Cristian, you brought up something I don't think I have mentioned yet but which is really important to me too: being happy earning my money. I don't want to do some boring or horrible job to make money.

I want to work so it doesn't feel like I am working.

Financial freedom is the ability to buy anything you want at anything without being questioned on the reason that you're making such purchases. So, that's my target about financial freedom.

This is not to brag but I guess I have achieved the financial freedom that I had been dreaming of. TechnicaIly I am not in debt and I can buy what I want reasonably. It is all because of my hard work and perseverance in my full time job. My investment 8n my job had paid off.

Financial freedom to me means having a passive flow of income that I don't need to work for money but money would be working for me, I don't need to scratch too much before I have money. If I can set up any financial thing that can bring in steady money even while sleeping then I'm in total freedom financially.
